Harmony or Clarity? What is a more important outcome?

Postby cleveridea on Tue Aug 21, 2007 11:10 am

There are all kinds of threads. This is about a specific thread type where two or more opposing points of view are discussed, mostly civilly, and no one point of view is the agreed "winner".

What generally is a more important outcome of a forum thread for you as a participant: Harmony or Clarity?

Harmony being, the participants have agreed to meet in some form of middle ground. Consensually, no one's point of view is deemed "the winner", but somewhere in the middle there is an agreed meeting of points of view.

Clarity being, the participants have agreed that they fully understand everyone's points of view. Also consensually, no one's point of view is deemed "the winner", but no one has retreated, essentially, from their point of view.

Sometimes they can exist together as an outcome, and it is quite a fruitful and wonderful result when the work to make it so happens. However, most of the time we must settle for one or the other. If you had to settle for one or the other, vote for that.

In my Point Of View Clarity. It helps you see both points of view..

In my thread I want them to know both points of view, but I am allowed my feelings and all I was doing was explaining why i left..

However she saw it as me being mean and not as me feeling I had to explain why I left and the idea of the words "personal problems" isn't good enough. I would have done the same had it been a problem with my mom or anyone else..

anyways ttyl

I choose "A horrible chaotic state where everybody has formed new alliances and lost old friends, and in which at least one forum poster has been thoroughly humiliated, preferably a new meme has been generated that everybody who was there can indluge in at a later date"

You know the kind of thing I mean?

Well, everybody wants harmony, or unity; it's a good thing, makes for peace. The problem is, when it comes down to specifics, everybody's idea of harmony is "everybody needs to agree with me."
