The homework, subject material, and standardized tests get harder every year; every year they bump down things from 1 grade level to the grade level below, kids are being taught things that older kids didn't learn at that age. While my brother studies I often find things in his agenda that I didn't hear about til I was much older (and no he's not in some genious class and I'm not in some "special" class).
Seriously do you guys have kids in high school? and if so how many advanced classes are they taking? kids in my school (which is small and not rich, far from a private school) often stay up late at night yearlong for homework and activities. These activities aren't always sports, they're often business activities and the like that students take for business experience or to look good in college.
When I was a sophomore I took advanced math and english in the same term (we have block scheduling); the homework killed me, the cramming everything into my head killed me, ever since then I've been taking average classes because I actually want to have time for myself after school (aka CC

)
older person....... ouch
No, my kids are not in high school yet, but it doesn't matter how "tough" school is. Bottom line is all you still have to worry about is good grades.
Now sure, that may be difficult in its own right, but it pales in comparison to the worries or concerns associated with
"real life".
Job, taxes, mortgage, car(s) payment, electric bill, water bill, heating bill, health insurance, car insurance, homeowners insurance, home maintenance, car(s) maintenance, food, and of course...........
raising children.
All of these items are on your parent's plate so that all you have to worry about is.........
getting good grades.........
so you can worry about ......
well.........
see the list above.
Good luck! Like I said, enjoy it now.
