Strange too, I can't figure out what could motivate choosing that location.
I must say I am completely shocked at this attack. I know a couple of people who were at the airport - one was injured with flying glass as they were at the check in desk in front of the attack.
They said if the attack was 10 minutes earlier there would have been massive casualties as lots of people had just left the terminal. It was pure luck that this happened when there was a lull between planes landing.
Some people seem to be saying that the attacks were poorly planned, but I feel the opposite. This plot in particular was cynically chosen on one of the busiest days at the airport - it is the beginning of the Scottish school holidays and the terminal was full of families. It was clearly designed to target children.
Large amounts of Strathclyde police were drafted over to Edinburgh to help out as security for the opening of the Scottish parliament so I can only presume the terrorists knew there would be a reduced police presence at the airport.
Whether or not the London plots and this attack were coordinated it would make sense that they were intended in some way as a message to the new Prime minister (Gordon Brown) and the new Scottish First Minister.
