1) Other presidents “held rallies spoke to The Public in public. Theodore Roosevelt was known to do it and that was how we got the term “bully pulpit”. Saying Trump is the ‘first” here is (like many of your comments” factually wrong.
That said it has been less common in the modern era for a couple reason…
*We have TV’s now… so do we really need or want Presidents to hold big public events regularly?
*It’s costly and a big hassle for the locale hosting the event. A complete WASTE of taxpayer dollars to pay for all the security, traffic enforcement, police overtime, etc. The Secrect Service has a budget for this… but the local authorities have to dip into their budgets.
*Also a hassle traffic wise for anyone in the vicinity.
2) You are insane (and also dumb) if you think Trump can waive a magic tariff wand and that will result in the near immediate return of manufacturing to US shores. The outsourcing/off-shoring is NOT the fault of Democrats or Republicans… it is the result of macro-economic forces beyond the control of either Party. It’s possible that with long-term and CONSISTENT policy efforts from both parties WORKING TOGETHER that we could, over the course of a decade or more, return some lost manufacturing to US shores. Trump Tariffs are NOT going to do this.
3) Most likely Trump Tariffs will result in an Economic Downturn. It COULD get as bad, or worse, than the mid 70’s. That said I expect Trump will back down and simultaneously claim victory, before our economy completely collapses. That said… these policies will still likely have some negative impact. It’s just a question of ‘how bad’ it’ll get.
4) Trump has “Rock Star Appeal”? I mean… on one hand you have to admit a significant % of Americans do seem to adore him. That said, I don/t think most really adore him as much as they adore the image he presents… an image of a “tough guy giving the middle finger to THE MAN”… in this case “THE MAN” being the Federal Gov’t. The sad part is that for some reason they don’t seem to recognize he himself is “THE MAN”. He’s kinda like the Pigs in Animal Farm… leading the blind gullible farm animals… and at first they think the Pigs are “just like them”, but eventually they realize the Pigs are just like the Farmers they overthrew.
Also… isn’t it sad in some way that having “Rock Star Appeal” seems to be considered a positive / plus here? I would much rather have a boring President who quietly implements policies that better the lives of myself and my family. I’ll get my “Rock Star Appeal” from actual rock stars or other celebrities… thank you very much.
5) Oh.. and he hasn’t done “everything” he said, still waiting for…
- Gaza War to End
- Ukraine War to End
(Didn’t he promise to end these like in 90 seconds or something?)
- Manufacturing to actually return to USA. (Ain’t gonna happen anytime soon.)
- All the illegals to be deported… sure he’s done some high profile (and questionably legal) deportations, but the ACTUAL NUMBERS of deportations have been DOWN not UP. If he truly wanted to go after Undocumented Aliens he’d go to meat processing plants in the South and farms in California and Florida. Kids on student Visas are annoying but they are Documented. Apparently he’s at least got some advisors stopping him from raiding meat packing plants… they recognize that Americans would be pretty upset if the supermarket shelves were empty. (BTW I’m NOT advocating he do these things… I’m just pointing out he hasn’t “delivered”.)
- Cut waste and spending.. still waiting for this. Right now it looks like the Budget Deficit is going to GO UP this year… IDK how that’s delivering on the “cutting” part. If you cut 10% of spending… but then increase spending elsewhere by 25% (while at the same time creating policies that increase the cost of servicing the National Debt) all you’ve accomplished is an increase in wasteful spending.
Idiot.
