------- Happy 130th Birthday Desert Fox (Erwin Rommel) :!: =D> =D> =D>
---------One of History's Greatest Military Minds , Commanders...Known for his chivalry and winning the respect of his enemies...As many Allied Generals, men and leaders wished he fought for the Allies...The North African War was known as , O:) THE WAR of NO HATE O:) ...As Rommel,The Germans, Italians and British treated enemy prisoners and wounded as if they were their own men...
-----------In one Battle , Rommel showed of his cunning , when he bluffed a British force of 250 tanks , when Rommel had only 50 working tanks...Rommel took wood cut outs if tanks and put them on Voltzwagons to make it look like he had 550 tanks...The British left their position...Buying Rommel time to be supplied with 2 new German Panzer divisions and 2 Italian divisions...
-----------Rommel was known for his out flanking tactics...He even wrote a book...In the movie PATTON ,played by George C. Scott...Patton is fighting Rommel...Yells,"You magnificent bastard , I read your book :!: "...
-----------In the liberation of Kuwait from Iraq...Gen. Schwarzkopf head of USA and Allied coalition forces... Attacking Saddam's forces , where he least expected an attack...Through the rough desert terrain...Using Rommel's right hook out flanking maneuver... :D ...In one part of the war...A Captured Iraqi riding in the back of an American APC ,asked The American driver, Why do you have a picture of your enemy(Rommel) hanging up..."...The American told him, "If you had a picture of him(Rommel) you wouldn't be riding in the back of my APC"...That is why History is Kool 8-) ...Should be taught and remembered and not torn down, erased , or destroyed...You never know when something can come in Handy... :D

Erwin Rommel, A great General and the "Desert Fox"

The Complicated Life Of Erwin Rommel, Anti-Semite, Nazi General, And Attempted Hitler Assassin

Adolf Hitler literally trusted Erwin Rommel with his life. He never could have expected that in 1944, the "Desert Fox" would join a conspiracy to assassinate him.

Erwin Rommel is remembered today as one of the “good Nazis” who tried to kill Adolf Hitler. The short version of the General’s history is that he became so appalled with the barbarity of the Third Reich that he turned against the Führer himself. But the truth is a bit more complicated than that.

While Rommel conspired in a plot that nearly succeeded in taking out Hitler, he spent the first six years of World War II as one of Hitler’s most loyal and devout followers. In private letters, Rommel even assured his family that Hitler was worth trusting, once writing to his wife that: “The führer knows what is right for us.”

He called Hitler the “unifier of the nation” and even kept an autographed copy of Mein Kampf proudly on display in his home. But after those first six years of fighting a failing war, Rommel changed. He had become one of the men Hitler most trusted, and indeed, Hitler never could have expected that in 1944 Rommel would join a conspiracy to assassinate him.

Rommel had come to believe that the only possible future for Germany was one where Hitler didn’t exist.

Rommel was such a masterful general that even his enemies couldn’t help but respect him. While fighting in North Africa, which is where Rommel spent most of the war, the British referred to him as a gentleman soldier. They dubbed him the “Desert Fox” for his humane treatment of his enemies and even called their battle against him a “War Without Hate.”

British Prime Minister Winston Churchill himself sang Rommel’s praises: “We have a very daring and skillful opponent against us and, may I say across the havoc of war, a great general.”

My Dad fought in the desert. He was a guy who very easily got mad about just about anything - but I think in his whole life the one remark that most annoyed him was the guy who, when he mentioned his war record, smiled knowingly and said "oh, one of Rommel's boys, eh?"
I think he'd got the Desert Fox and the Desert Rats mixed up.

---------Yes, Rommel was Hitler's favorite General....But Rommel as many of Germany's top generals...we're not Nazis...There were some who were , and threw Hitler their support...But many , like Rommel served Germany not Hitler...Many Generals were of Prussian Aristocrats/Prussian nobleman etc...They hated Hitler and Hitler hated them...But like Rommel , the served Germany/Prussia...Hitler just happened to be in charge...Like if Hitler took power in America...Patton, Ike , MacArthur would have served Hitler because he was Commander over the Military...Rommel hated the Nazi units...He kept them , for the most part out of North Africa...Another reason the North Africa war was different from the European war...More Honor and Chivalry in North Africa...
-----------Now , funny thing about that... Hitler's Security , everyone who went to see Hitler was searched ... No weapons were permitted near Hitler...Except one man...Rommel...If it was because he was Hitler's favorite General, or they were afraid to offend Rommel, he had his gun/side arm with him, every time he saw Hitler...Either way if Rommel wanted to , he could have shot Hitler when ever he wanted...He had no part in the bombing by Count Von Stephenburg(a Prussian Aristocrat)...
--------The people involved in the plot to kill/blow up Hitler, when Hitler was dead they intended to name Rommel Head of State , Rommel had no knowledge of this, later when Hitler killed Himself, that Honor went to Admiral Donitz, most likely because he was head of the navy not the army...If Rommel wasn't forced to kill himself, because the Nazis finally found a way to get rid of him, when they found out the bombers were going to name Rommel Head of State...Rommel most likely would have been named Head of State if he was alive when Hitler killed himself, because the Allies respected him...But Rommel was never part of any plot to kill Hitler...
... O:) ConfederateSS.out!(The Blue and Silver Rebellion)... O:) ...Like Rommel... STONEWALL Jackson was killed by those who feared him...As he taught Blacks how to read and write when it was against the law...The Judge and STONEWALL whould go back and forth about it before The War Between the States...I think the Judge and his people, finally found away to get to the well loved STONEWALL...As one night, STONEWALL was shot by mistake;) by his own troops...

------------- Happy 131st Birthday Desert Fox(Erwin Rommel) :!: =D> =D> =D> ...I don't have time to type all that ... :) ....
------------------- So as to the other stuff about Rommel....One more thing....He always knew , what the other side was thinking....Even if out gunned...He knew the Allies as centuries before (when others invaded Italian Area)...Before going into Italy's Boot itself...Would take the Isle of Sicily first...No one listened to him....In the defense of France...He told everyone, One, the Allies learned from their mistake at Dieppe....Two, the Allies would invade at Normandy...They didn't listen to him again... Because the Pas de Calis was closer to England...Three, as Rommel built up Normandy's defense on the beaches...He told them, Victory would be won at land's end...Place the Panzer divisions right at the coast...Once again they ignored Rommel...Placed the Panzers inland...In most cases, needing bridges to cross , even before going over lots of land to get to the coast...Which late June 5th and early June 6th...Allied Paratroopers and French Resistance would blow up bridges, delaying German troops/panzer divisions from getting to the Normandy coast...Just as Rommel predicated....

They weren’t Nazi’s?

Maybe not officially.

Yet he fought and killed for a Nazi gov’t that committed some of the most horrendous atrocities of the modern era.

Judge man by his actions not his words.

Just because he didn’t call himself a Nazi or wasn’t an official Nazi Party member doesn’t excuse him from the sins his actions helped perpetuate.
