Jim scores 8 for an informative bear post.
Doom 10 for a hilarious bear post.
Calgary is a pretty big city by Canadian Standards. It is also quite spread out so it is fairly large by area.
Grizzlys, Black bears and brown bears are probably about 50 miles away. They don't come here but many of the campgrounds we enjoy are in their area. One of my wife's work buddies won't go toward the mountains because she is terrified of them. We rarely see any.
Sometimes Cougars wander into the city here. Lots of deer, coyotes, too many hares. Occasionally a moose.
Even with signs, some with photographs, very clearly explaining the problem and laws, people still leave food out camping and get fines. I would think anyone who saw even a simple sign that said. "You are now in Bear Country, Do Not Leave Food Out." Would be more careful, but no.
https://www.albertaparks.ca/parks/kanan ... ear-smart/Last time I saw a bear it was heading toward a campground so I stopped at the ranger station to tell them. The ranger says, "Would you like to make a bear report?" I thought I was. Then after asking a few more times. I said, "I guess." She picks up the phone, dials and tells someone there is a person wishing to make a bear report.
I guess I did not actually want to, but I did.
