Didn't you just announce his birthday the other week? I feel like he has 4-5 birthdays a year.

Unfortunately for the South, Jefferson Davis was incompetent.

The South likely would’ve lost the Civil War anyway, but with better leadership their odds would’ve been better.

The only reason the war lasted as long as it did was the primary US General (General George McClellan) for the first half of the war was even more incompetent.

---------The Reason: was...THE SOUTH's HIGH COMMAND WAS SO MUCH GREATER than The North's...With LEE THE GREATEST SOLDIER AMERICA's EVER HAD...Along with STONEWALL JACKSON,Sidney Johnson and Joe Johnston and many more...The North never could find a General to out think LEE ...With them THE SOUTH was able to keep the war going ...Despite...out numbered in men and weapons,at ever turn... :!: THAT's WHY :!: ......There was a saying,"not a cannon factory in THE SOUTH."...By sure numbers...Without the GREAT SOUTH's HIGH COMMAND...The North would have ended the war the 1st day...Like many thought,as they came out to watch...In buggies ,with picnic baskets...All they did that day was cause traffic jams for The North...Old Jeff was pretty clever...He hid ,in Today's Money...The C.S.A.'s treasury ...Over 500 million dollars in Gold...Hidden still to this very day :D ...Let's get some shovels... ;)

It is an INDISPUTABLE FACT that Jefferson Davis was the #1 president of all of the presidents of the Confederate States, dumbass. :x

It’s funny how revered Lee was/is by Southern sympathizers and racists.
He was a better General than McClellan, that much is true, but he wasn’t markedly better than Grant.

He had the advantage of being able to (for the most part) fight a defensive war on home turf.
This, plus the ineptitude of McClellan, were the reasons the South was able to hold out as long as it did.

If Lee were a better/smarter general he would fought in a more non-conventional way. When he (or other Southern Generals) were forced to use non-conventional tactics they did much better. However he kept pursuing a “Big Decisive Victory” in Battle which he erroneously thought would end the war.

This pursuit led him into situations where he won battles that were pyrrhic victories, as those battle were too costly in terms of men and supplies. In many of those cases the North technically lost the battle, but because the North had more resources the South was ultimately hurt more by these supposed “victories”.

If he were a smarter general he would’ve fought a more “hit-and-run” style... and worn down the North. His only chance of victory in the end was to prolong the war and make it so costly for the North that the public opinion in the North would fade and the North would grown weary.

He was too “proud” to fight this “unmanly” style of war. His pride cost the South its’ Independence.

I don’t think I ever said he was a teetotaler, nor did I say he was a good man.

I said he was just as good or better a general as Lee.
(Which in Grant’s case means he was adequate for the job... in Lee’s case he wasn’t even that.)

Grant definitely did some horrible things... but he was a man of his time and most of the horrible things he did were, in his mind, necessary to win the war(s) he was fighting. (In the first case, the war against the rebellious South... and in the second case the war against the Indians.)

Grant may have owned one manservant slave for a year or so, the historical record is unclear.

Lee however was a slave owner and had a terrible reputation as a bad ‘master’.

What’s worse... owning other people; or being reckless with civilian lives during war?
Both are pretty bad... but to try to paint Grant as “Evil” while holding up Lee as a “Hero” and “Great Man” is pretty preposterous.
