Actually, the way dogs do it is very different from what most people (or at any rate, non-dog-owners like me) think they do. I myself recently discovered this on an episode of "QI".
(I'm sure the whole thing is more complicated than how I've described it, so if any dog-owners want to point out any mistakes I may have made, please go ahead.)
See, most people think they mate like this:
When, in fact, I gather this only the preliminary phase of mating.
By some incredibly-awkward looking movements, they then actually end up like this:
That'll make yer eyes water.
If you want to see footage of this latter stage of mating in action, I recommend the Kim Ki-Duk film "Address Unknown" (South Korean). Although only for the brief dog-mating scene - the rest of the film's shite.
