Thousands of pro-democracy protesters have been engaged violently by Spanish police while demanding the right of Catalonia to break away from the Madrid government:

Protesters have clashed with police outside a Barcelona and Real Madrid football match at Nou Camp in Spain.

Thousands of fans inside the stadium held up banners urging the Spanish government to "sit and talk" with those demanding Catalan independence.

The match had been postponed in October over protests against the jailing of nine Catalan separatist leaders.

Many Barcelona fans and other protesters want a legal independence referendum for the region.

Before the game a secretive Catalan protest group, Democratic Tsunami, said on Twitter it would distribute 100,000 banners to fans. It also told them to bring inflatable balls and to write on them a "message for the world".

honestly I don't even want to get involved with you in this conversation because you are just likely trolling, or trying to make people react and compare it to free tibet campaigns and such things.
I'll just ask you a serious question: what good would it bring to catalonia, scottland, basq cuntry, corsica or any other separatist wannabe region to become independent? Do you think they have less benefits than prejudice or that their citizens are treated wrongly? It's all BS. SOmetimes, I really would like all of these regions to become independent and boycotted by the country they used to be part of, then see how all of their industries and capitals flee back to the mother land...

more importantly i would love see spain boycott cataluña by not allowing barcelona fc to play in la liga so they have to go begging france to enter ligue 1, or to compete in their own league with barca, espanyol, nastic, girona, sabadell and hospitalet.

The best part is to see how the fc barcelona is used politically for their independence agenda. Laporta got involved and became president just to become famous there and start a political career. He succeeded in football and failed in politics with a few corruption stuff around his ass. Yestersay again barcelona-real madrid was used by activists.... and yes, their good old club would look quite sad in an independent catalonian league. It would be great indeed
