Upcoming cold snap could set 170 records nationwide
The big dip in temperatures across much of the country this coming week is expected to set dozens of records for lowest high temperatures.
The blast of arctic air will kick off the week with a three-day freeze that’s expected to plunge temperatures into territory usually seen in January, and will even reach deep into the southern U.S.
The National Weather Service is predicting 170 potential daily cold high temperature records will fall, along with the thermometer.
In addition to the cold, a storm system may develop over the central U.S. bringing icy conditions to the central Plains and even snow to parts of the south by Wednesday.
