So, again. what am I missing, here, DY, relevant to the discussion in this thread about the movie Matrix?

A sense of humour.

So as far as I can tell the space ship Nebuchadnezzar wasn't a space ship at all. More like a submarine? I was expecting them to loose air containment or get flooded when the hull was breached by the robot machines.

It would of been a better movie if they all died during that scene.

Sometimes its best that all the good guys die in a movie, like The Alamo with John Wayne.

Did anyone watch the MLP pony clip I posted and understand the point?

Three last points on this movie:

1) Any thought or discussion on any significant meaning of this movie is silly; someone else said it is "eye candy" and not much more. That seems sufficiently accurate.

2) The only humor in this thread is the silliness of some individuals looking for deep meaning. Most of the attempted humor is silly stuff, like the juvenile and sophomoric humor of some teens I know. The references to humor that were cited are not funny, IMO. I would find humor and show an appreciation of the humor if there were indeed something actually funny.

3) Those who say I have no sense of humor do not know me. Share something really funny and I can LoL.

I agree with Duk on this movie. I was disappointed, thinking it was going to offer MORE. It did not impress me on many levels.

Star Wars, Star Trek, and the LOTR are much better movies and stories.

It's fun. Just don't get too wrapped up in its intellectual pretensions. It is really good entertainment. It is not a brilliant philosophical puzzle as it pretends to be.

The above quote sums up this whole thread really.

The Matrix raises a couple of questions. Is there such a thing as one objective reality? How do we know if what we are perceiving is ‘reality’? Which one really matters: the reality we perceive or the ‘real’ one? Vanilla Sky also touches on the same ideas, albeit briefly (and neither film spends any real time exploring them). They’re interesting to think about though.

They’re also questions that have been thrown around by revered philosophers for more than 2,000 years. Apparently this thread is more sophisticated than all the greatest minds in philosophy combined, so I guess we should archive this thread as the moment that philosophy took another great leap forwards.

The movie appeals to my quest to see things others might not. Being an undervalued stock, a coin buried in the ground or trying to perceive God. In the science field we are still trying to perceive dark matter and dark energy.

Symmetry has failed to acknowledge his error on more than one occasion. He is a troll. That is my main point and the focus of my reply. If he wants to offer a "cute" and facetious reply, so be it. He is still a troll and fails to admit any error.

Cute comics by Symm does not change his spots.

I admit that I am ignorant of both his subtle jokes with regards to the Matrix, but I am not worried about not knowing all jokes about modern pop culture. Most current pop culture is rather worthless, if you let me express my opinion. I have students who find hilarious many jokes about memes and other aspects of popular culture. I find the few I asked about to be largely inane and banal; rather pedestrian, too.

Symmetry and fake burn are both trolls. Symm has some intelligence, at least.

2dimes wrote:I'm not sure I want to help here but I guess it would be wrong not to.

He was trying to make a joke partially referring to the comic strip. A lot of people loved the original but hate the sequels so badly they prefer to deny any exist because they are not fit to be included as part of the series.

After he posted the comic. You seem too focused on the bulk of his past work to even consider this could be a fun exchange. You are predominately correct but in this case, he was not merely being a prick to you he was trying to make a fun little light joke.

I can't fault you for being unable to let it happen, he has certainly earned that. If you can't seperate him from Bern, I can look the other way so to speak and allow you that. Let me know.

The joke is also referring to the movie itself in that, everything is a simulation, so you can create the sequels by imagining them (admitting they exist) or choose that they don't actually exist. Kind of like, "There is no spoon."

"There is no sequel"

It's kinda like how explaining a joke gets less funny with each attempt to explain it. Thanks for the gratuitous insults though, jp.

Why are you all beating up Ragnar?

You don’t really believe that you’re going to make him ‘understand’ do you?

I know I’m not hip with current social dynamics and pecking order of this forum. That said, it’s clear for this thread alone that Ragnar’s not capable of following anything more than the very top level of the conversation, and he’s also not capable of admitting that... even when it’s explained.

Looks like not much has changed around here. ;)

I’ve lurked and thrown in a random comment, infrequently.

The game doesn’t fit into my schedule, before I could play from work.
So since I haven’t been coming for the game it’s harder to justify wasting time in this forum.

Let's talk Dark Matter and Dark Energy. Then the trolls can have fun with all the double entendre comments intrinsic to those two phrases.
