food question

Postby jonesthecurl on Fri May 10, 2019 8:33 pm

My ignorance of US culture revealed once again: "Survey Says" question - name a dish served at Thanksgiving other than turkey". No 1 answer "dressing". What is "Dressing" in this context?

Stuffing.

Some people create an artificial difference like "dressing is not cooked in the turkey, stuffing is cooked in the turkey" but those people are wrong (and therefore fascists). It's merely a regional difference in term.

Doesn't that just mean stuffing? Sometimes it's served separate, so not actually stuffed into the turkey.

There's a difference in the way it's done in the UK too, but without the different names, You can buy stuffing mix that's meant to never be stuffed, basically. Dressing would be more of a term asscociated with salads, as in the US.

Stuffing is more a chicken thing in the UK, and it is an art.

The map is incorrect. Texas is stuffing. The TV commercials always say stuffing. Sad, I should be out partying.

"Partying" in the Balkans means killing and butchering a chicken in preparation for a "Hook Up", which means "Stuffing" in Australia. but has wildly different meanings if you're from India.
