Mass Effect and The Planet Pluto

Postby DaGip on Sun Aug 16, 2015 5:31 pm

I don't know how many of you like to play video games, but Mass Effect is an all time classic. I am rebooting the trilogy again for about the fifth time since I bought the games three or four years ago. It's really a good series of games...a little buggy...but still a good time (especially when you can have lesbian sex with female officers if you play a FemShep character).

Anyway, the reason for this post is that when I was exploring the galaxy in ME1, I decided to take a little trip to our own Solar System (which is called The Local Cluster and the Sol Star System). Remember that this game came out in 2007.

I thought I would go ahead and stop at all the planets on the way to Earth and the Moon (Luna). The first planet, of course, was Pluto. I wanted to see what Mass Effect's representation of Pluto was before we ever had a detailed photo of it. When I clicked on Pluto...this is the image I saw:

and this is the actual image of Pluto as we had just discovered a couple of months ago.

I would agree that they are not exactly the same, but there are some similarities between the two that I find interesting. One is the color and the other (although it is not in the same position) is the "Heart" shaped splotch.

Just thought I'd share this with you guys and gals.

ME3's ending (even the new one) was the only real problem I had with the series. Even the multiplayer is fun, though the in game store can be frustrating when trying to get new weapons.

The coloration isn't that surprising even before we had high detailed photos we believed we knew the rough composition of Pluto (as we believe we know the rough composition of most objects in that region. Know the composition, you can guess the rough coloration of the planet. The heart shaped splotch. Cool.

As far as Mass Effect, love them.

Yeah, it really threw me for a loop when I saw ME's rendition of what they thought Pluto would look like and the real deal. Kind of gave me chills on the similarity 8-[

The color was really close, and if what you say is accurate then it means that the ME team must have done their technical research for Pluto's artwork. If not, then it was a good guess, somebody on the team was a psychic, or somebody was a space alien playing a prank on us gamers!

Yep, they are not exactly the same, but I don't give much attention to dissimilarity. Mass Effect is perfect, and planet exploration in it is like nothing else.
