Chinese Imperialism

Postby DoomYoshi on Wed Jul 12, 2017 8:30 pm

So, unless you count their repeated invasions of the West Phillipine Sea and their constant assaults on decency, China hasn't had any overseas bases.

Until today when they opened a base in the runt of Africa - Djibouti. It's a nation so wild that Italy, Japan, the United States, Spain and even France have bases there already.

I knew today was a weird day because that one red light that I always hit was green today. I already marked it on my calendar of historic dates for that reason and now I need to fit this in the slot somehow as well.

Watch out, they're coming. I suggest you watch zombie movies to prepare yourself. Remember: if you refuse to recognize them as human, you can do whatever you want to them as if they are zombies.

The difference between this Chinese base and many American ones is that the Chinese base will not be used for the purposes of intimidating and/or creating conflict with other countries in the region.

For example, the UK and Australian navies have some ships posted overseas that are used for nothing other than combating piracy (in places such as Somalia). This is very different to many US military bases, which are used for purposes such as: intimidating North Korea and Iran through posturing; serving as a base for deliberate trespassing into Chinese territorial waters in order to undermine Chinese sovereignty; and launching attacks on countries such as Libya and Syria.

The reason you automatically equate overseas military bases with imperialism is because your perceptions are guided heavily by America's aggressive use of military bases for intimidation and invasion. Other countries have successfully posted troops overseas for nothing but cooperative and harmonious purposes on numerous occasions.

Not sure why you say "even France" when it's a former french colony.
