Necrobumping

Since Sym just farted that lame idea out of his front ass, that's when.

It's never been a crime but there are a few reasons why necrobumping is frowned upon.

1) It's often something that the OP has no control over anymore- especially when it comes to changes in polls
2) It creates legitimacy for trolls to post whatever they want on the end of a chain of arguments that are long dead for the posters involved.
3) It discourages newer players from posting, as it seems as if the thread has a long history of posts- a long chain of arguments to join.
4) It used to be a tool for posters looking to get people banned. Necrobump a load of stuff, and when they respond, get a friend to claim that they're posting too much about the same thing. Otherwise known as the Phatscotty method.
5) It bumps threads off the main page.

That seems to me a fairly concise set of reasons not to necrobump, or at least not to make it a habit without good reason.

Or, if that doesn't work- don't be a dick, and if you already are, try to be less so.

Sym = self-serving hypocritical bullshit generator.

Three points to ponder.

1. All threads are valid regardless of age.
2. Constantly generating new threads is in it's self disruptive to continuous communication. Better to find an already existent thread that can meet your purpose.
3. Having to debate stupid Sym-generated non-issues is extremely detrimental to online communication in all forms.

That he may be. However, on this issue he's not wrong.

Nobody's gotten a ban for necrobumping in a long, long time. I don't even know when was the last time. I think it's been four or five years. Still, back in the day it was one of the things that was routinely prosecuted.

A few necrobumps here and there are no problem at all. Too many could be construed as a problem.

No, they are not-

1) a thread with a poll that can no longer be updated is not as valid as a thread that has a someone regularly looking at it and able to modify the OP, for example.

2) It's not a case of constantly generating new threads- fresh discussion is better than asking people to argue against players who are either gone, or who abandoned that line of argument years ago and have forgotten the to and fro from when it was current. That's borrowing legitimacy.

3) Meh, can't help you with that complaint, it's all your own.

This is something I agree on- I think it should be a matter of forum etiquette that people should be called out on, a bit like triple posting. Do it once or twice, or just occasionally, it's not a problem for the mods to get involved in. Make it a habit, or do it a lot over a short period then it can become an issue.

I occasionally necro-bump the Cute Baby Animal Appreciation thread when I think things are getting too nasty between players in OT. Once in a while isn't an issue, making a habit of it can be.

The polls are a side issue to threads, especially since they can be added by other posters after a thread has started.

A non-player who lives in a glass house posting kitten polls shouldn't cast stones.

Furthermore there is no non-arbitrary division between an active and inactive thread.

The term and indeed, the entire concept of necro-bumping amounts to nothing more than an opinionated slur.

Look, I've given, I think, a fair explanation of a few reasons why you shouldn't necrobump, and if you do, why you shouldn't make a habit of it. I think I addressed your counter-arguments. Just doing it to troll another person seems like the weakest reason to necrobump lots of threads.

Obviously Sym is terrified of having his past inanities and conceits dredged up into the light.

The Artless Dodger can't take a direct hit, and so must he deny and deflect until the end of his days.

Was that supposed to be a threat, llamo?

Just because you feel the need to keep kissing the right sphincters for 'protection', doesn't mean we all feel this way.
Indeed, most of the Greats have been banned or left, and CC is dying because of it.
Even you have half-admitted that, though you always try to hide the true reasons and your own slavish culpability.

Easy solution. Define necro bumping as homophobic. yesteryear was less accepting of the gay man/woman/zir/snowflake/#$#!!/unicorn, therefor bumping a thread from yesteryear is violence against the LGBTQ community. Bigots

Meh- prolonging this just makes it seem more and more like the reason you were doing it was for a reaction, thorth.
