Trump Vows to Protect the Fanciest Americans

The White House said on Monday that President Trump would leave in place a 2014 Obama administration order that created new workplace protections for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

In a statement issued in response to growing questions about whether Mr. Trump would reverse the Obama order, the White House said the president was proud to embrace gay rights.

“President Trump continues to be respectful and supportive of L.G.B.T.Q. rights, just as he was throughout the election,” the statement said. “The president is proud to have been the first ever G.O.P. nominee to mention the L.G.B.T.Q. community in his nomination acceptance speech, pledging then to protect the community from violence and oppression.”

The decision to keep the order, the statement added, was Mr. Trump’s. It uses stronger language than any Republican president has before in favor of equal legal protections for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, though that is not likely to quiet Mr. Trump’s critics on the left.

The first American president to enter office supportive of LGBTQ rights is... Donald Trump. Just let that sink in.

I read that one of the apparently LGBTQ-supportive papers basically said "Yeah, but..." and proceeded to list things like "His executive order on banning immigrants will also ban gays and lesbians." Seems like they were reaching.

It's that tribalism again. That other guy voted differently, therefore he's Hitler, and we can't recognize anything he does right.

I don't think he's done anything yet, i don't know. He at least as supportive of them in his statement of "pledging" to protect them from violence and oppression.

'Course Obama said he'd repeal the Patriot Act, so who knows, maybe Trump will ban the gays and wiretap their phones for national security.

The point is that everyone's so firmly entrenched in their conceptions, they refuse to see what actually happens, and only what they want to see. Trump was a Democrat for like 10 years. I don't get the impression he is homophobic like a lot of the religious right (Pence for example).

But sure, maybe in his attempt to continue his appeal to his voter base, he'll ignore gay rights.

About the same as he championed for Jewish rights. The Jews were given Stars of David to wear in the internment camps and the gays were given triangles.

If you were a gay jew, was it a 1/4star or a star and a half? What way did the triangle point? Was it an equilateral triangle?
