This thread reminds me of an old Communist-era joke.
The Russians were always changing the propaganda line. Sometimes they wanted to be called our "brothers" and other times they wanted to be called our "best friends." No surprise that people were sometimes confused as to which was the proper politically-correct term.
Anyway, the joke:
Little Frankie (we have little Frankie jokes in Czechoslovakia just like you have Little Johnny jokes in the U.S.) is asked by his teacher, "Frankie, do you think the Russians are our Brothers or our Best Friends?"
"Of, for sure they're our Brothers," says Frankie. "We get to pick our Friends."
