Cover me

List any cool, weird, amazingliny interesting covers of songs here.

I was torn between a few for my first post, but settled on a more contemporary "classic"

Down with the Sickness - originally by Disturbed

- covered smoooothly by Richard Cheese:

The only thing that comes to mind is the Cowboy Junkies covering Lou Reed's "Sweet Jane."

When I first heard it I thought, "How can you massacre a classic like that, you shameless scum?!?!" and I wanted to sentence them to capital punishment. But over the years I have come to realize that it's a legitimately interesting version in its own right, and I actually have started to like it now.

Old, obscure, and incredibly fun...

... and that's just me. This cover version of the classic is pretty good too.

I was in a band once and we did You Really Got Me. The singer introduced the song by saying, "Here's a little VanHalen for you." After the set I gave him a hard time for not knowing it was a Kinks song. I later made fun of him pretending to call out to a crowd saying, "All right, we're going to do a little VanHalen for you.. here's Happy Birthday! He had a good sense of humour about it and actually laughed. Hopefully I helped educate him a little.

Here's an interview with Dave Davies where they discuss how the song became known as a VanHalen song.
