"Nobody" is a pretty broad term.
I very much suspect sample bias. Three or four people that you know may have commented on it in the last month. I very much doubt if that is a representative sample of the entire planet's population.
Personally, I noticed it many years ago, but I understood the light/dark bias in our eyes, so I never considered it important enough to discuss with anyone. You're the first person I know that's ever actually asked about it, so you're the first person I ever explained it to.
He's not just saying that it looks like there's a chunk missing. He's saying that a month ago, it did not look that way. And that people he's talked to agree, but no one else does. And the media, even the conspiracy-laden sources that he gets his information from, are not reporting on it.
Personally, I suspect mental illness. His "friends" (assuming they're not imaginary), are just humoring him. And if some stranger came up to me and asked me if the moon looked different, I might be inclined to agree with them just to end the conversation and get away as quickly as I could.
All I can speak for the way it looks is the way it looks to me. You made a point to state the obvious but not important.
Out of curiousity, what are the conspiracy laden sources I get my information from?

mental illness? HAHAHA! hater much? Ya, good for you, congrats! I'm going to dig deeper into how many people have even noticed the visual effect, which is 0% so far. Interesting fact (so far) there, since most of yall are stating that everyone already knows about said fact and why the effect exists, all the while with never having noticed the effect? I admit it's like 9 people right now, but there WILL be more to come. But 9 in a row for something that everyone is supposed to already know, which somehow is supposed to be common knowledge.... shows the haterism is strong. I get it, gotta take your digs on Phatty whenever ya can. I suspect your response will have something to do with the effect that since nobody told me about the reason yet, which is most likely because I have never asked, which is definitely because I have never noticed before a couple months ago..... that must mean because I am dumb I only hang around and ask dumb people also, and that they are imaginary.

btw, none of us know anything about anything until someone else tells us or we read about it or view professional and expert commentary and displays. It's been 20 years now and it never ceases to amaze me how people think they are smart and another is stupid based on the sole fact that someone else told them sooner than the other (perhaps a few figured it out naturally). Trouble with pompous displays like that is the dumb person, playing by the smart person's rules, can immediately become the smart person since there is ALWAYS at least one thing the previously dumb person heard/knew about before the previously smart person, thereby making them just as dumb for originally judging the other person to be dumb, and likely dumber for not realizing that they seemed to imply they know everything before everyone else and dumber still for thinking there is nothing the initially judged as dumb could know a thing or two about a thing or two the other did not. Whatever though, usually when I find myself laughing along with everyone when I am the target is still a good thing, because I learned something from it. I wouldn't doubt 85% of everyone who posted here and read here also learning something as well. That puts a smile on top of my lulz.
By all means, please please PLEASE continue! ♥
