NFL - Chase Daniel contract

Postby mandalorian2298 on Wed Apr 20, 2016 5:11 pm

As much as I love football, I recognize that, being European, I might never be able to understand it as fully as you Yanks. So I ask, with great humility, that someone explains to me the angle.

Because there must be an angle at work here. Does Chase Daniel hail from a family of witches who bestow to his team as much magic as they overpay him? Is it some kind of a prestige thing to have the most overpaid third string QB in the league?

Is it the lizard people?

This is an excellent question, and I think lizard people might be the best answer possible.

And why did they feel it was so important to lock him up for the next 3 years? Maybe they were worried that New England would try to steal him away, those dastardly cheaters!

Bollocks.

Hell if I know. He had a good college career, but such a disappointing pro-career thus far. I think the only thing he brings is experience.

Also, now that Philly traded up for the 2nd pick, it makes even less sense. Unless they're planning on trading Bradford before the season starts yet and letting Daniels go into the season as their #1 until Wentz (or Goff) is ready to start full time. None of this makes tons of sense right now though.

Well, it wasn't that long ago Denver didn't even have a QB on roster. And last I heard, they were gunning hard for Kaepernick.

I read that they are too far apart on how much his salary would be reduced.

Actually, that idea with a plan to trade Bradford (to 49ers because who else) would make a lot of sense given the trade with Browns, but why then would they give him the 18 million contract?

Maybe it is some kind of overreaction to what happened to Cowboys last season. Maybe someone at Philly got so traumatized by watching the Weeden saga that he spent the last couple of months going from man to man and screaming "We must secure the backup quarterback!!!" :o :o :o

I think that there is a conspiracy between Chip Kelly loyalists to make sure that his roster reshuffle is quickly forgotten by doing worse. Sure, they dumped Murray's, Alonso's and Maxwell's contracts on other teams, but then they used the cap space to overpay Bradford and Daniel AND, most impressively, they managed get fleeced by Browns (although I take that last part back if Rams leave Wentz on the board).

So yes, I agree, it's lizard people

Unsurprisingly, Sam Bradford has demanded a trade out of Philly. The only surprise is that Philly seems surprised by the demand. So we're looking at a situation now were Daniels could be Philly's starter going into the season, and, well... good luck with that one!

Maybe that's why Eagles gave Bradford such a big contract - to make him less attractive for other teams.

But that is an interesting scenario - Daniel as starter. It further shows how much smarter they would have been to take a career place-holder like Hoyer for less. He would be a more reliable replacement, he has more experience to share with Goff/Wentz and he's a team player used to playing second fiddle.

BTW, did anyone make a move for Hoyer yet? I would expect Dallas to pounce on him given how much they could have used someone like him last season.

I find it odd that Chase Daniel, of all people, is the center of this topic

My fault, I'm just irked when something seems to have no explanation. 8-[

I can understand (though not necessarily agree) with things like Dolphins picking up Alonso and Maxwell; Texans paying a bunch of money to Brock despite the fact that he hasn't yet proved his worth as franchise QB; Panthers allowing Norman to walk away (I said "without agreeing"!); even big contract that Bradford got; but I can't follow the train of thought which lead Eagles to conclude that they have to spend their cap space on the guy that no one was really trying to take away from them.

Don't you find it bizzare that Daniel has a lucrative (for a backup) long term deal and yet, as an example, neither Jets nor Broncos have been willing to pay what Fitzpatrick is asking despite the fact that, with the exception of the last game against Buffalo, he was pretty solid throughout the season? (I picked him up of waivers in FF and, against favorable matchups, he had pretty dependable production. I know FF isn't a measure of anything, I'm just saying he can and did play)

So, it all makes sense in the end.

Which brings me to the new topic: How in the name of everything did it end up making sense?! Was there a Philadelphia agent in Minneapolis casually tossing banana peels around Teddy Bridgewater? How? Why? Lizard people!!! :x
