British academics

Postby mrswdk on Fri Sep 09, 2016 3:40 am

When the sharpest kids in the UK leave school they often go to universities such as Bath and Manchester, where they receive an education from some of the country's finest intellects.

Mother-of-three Leah Wild, 44, who taught sociology at the University of Bath, started downing duty free Jack Daniels and brandy when her holiday flight was delayed.

She was grabbed from behind by a police officer and as she was marched down the aisle to the exit, she slapped the arresting officer in the face.

...

Wild's updated Facebook entry gives her current city as Twatt, Shetland Islands, and her hometown as Asse, Belgium.

Under the heading "other places lived" she had put Fanny, West Virginia and Bald Knob, Arkansas.

A university professor whose secret life as a porn star was laid bare after one of his students recognised him in an X-rated film has quit.

Nicholas Goddard, a respected chemical engineering lecturer at the University of Manchester , had been living a double life as an adult film actor.

Millions watched him as ‘Old Nick’ in scores of porn movies alongside his duties as a professor.

I don't think a professor should get fired because he has a part-time job on the side. Especially a part-time job that was years ago.

Awesome stuff. Must be refreshing to see academics not totally under state control for you M. The wackier the prof, the better IMHO.

Maybe. Don't underestimate a free academia.

I'm not really sure what Bath's director of social sciences flashing her cooch on an airplane has to do with free speech anyway.

It apparently elicits fascinating responses from angry ex-pats living in China. For a sociologist, I'd call her a success.

I, for one, have found the results intriguing.
