I've always found the American reverance towards the flag and anthem of the US kinda creepy. When I lived there, it was kinda weird that kids had to swear loyalty to a flag everyday.

Now we have police refusing to look after the public unless an African-American NFL player pays homage and stops his Black Lives Matter peaceful protest.

Disturbing stuff.

Francis Bellamy and Upham had lined up the National Education Association to support the Youth's Companion as a sponsor of the Columbus Day observance along with the use of the American flag. By June 29, 1892, Bellamy and Upham had arranged for Congress and President Benjamin Harrison to announce a proclamation making the public school flag ceremony the center of the Columbus Day celebrations (this was issued as Presidential Proclamation 335). Subsequently, the Pledge was first used in public schools on October 12, 1892, during Columbus Day observances organized to coincide with the opening of the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois.

His original pledge was, "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

As for the reverence towards the anthem (and for some reason both are contained within the federal flag code laws) it's important to get respect whenever anyone plays a 19th century drinking tune To Anacreon in Heaven from London (and yes we ripped off most of England finest tunes for our own use, ever hear of "My Country 'tis of thee") one needs to wrap it up with respect. ALso remember this was the same people who took our first President based on the Constitution and painted him as an ascending god in the dome of the capital building.

I think you may have misunderstood again, P. The Black Lives Matter movement is very much about the relationship between African-Americans and the antagonistic attitude that the police have towards them.
