Can agree with that list except Regan,and its a tough choice this go around looks like either way we are screwed, it may come down to a choice of lesser of two evils and who that is is still not clear

The media was constantly complaining about what a loose canon Reagan was both before he was president and while he was president. His defense initiative was called "Star Wars" because they insisted it was science fiction if not outright science fantasy.

Ever hear of the "Silent Majority?" That's even older than Reagan; it was a term developed by Nixon.
What about the "Moral Majority?" That was started by Falwell in 1979 and went through the 80's.
Talk radio started in the 1990's.

Yes, zealots have been with us in the US for a very long time.
