Further, the data we do have in the United States shows that the Assault Weapons Ban didn't actually reduce the amount of gun violence. I suspect that's because most gun violence is committed using handguns.
Actually there is hard evidence that many many more guns owned by Americans has drastically reduced the amount of gun violence/murders per capita. There are other factors involved of course, but it does shoot down the whole 'reduce guns and therefore reduce gun violence! argument. I get the original idea and all, it makes sense because it's simple, and that's what simple people believe. If only life were so simple.
Not to mention, there have been quite a few examples throughout history where virtually ALL or most guns were outright banned/heavily reduced, and what followed were some the bloodiest horrors of gun violence known to man. And that hell on earth scenario seems to follow major gun reductions like clockwork. I have long suspected that has a lot to do with the reality that 'the people' don't have any real power, and their Liberties become less and less and the people pretty much have to do whatever their leaders say and have no means/little means to fight back literally
As the number of guns has risen roughly 65% in the last 22 years, the rate of people murdered by guns have been reduced over 50% in the same time frame.
