This Is England

Anyone seen this film?

Saw it today and was very impressed. Best portrayal of thatcher-era Britain / youth culture / racism etc. I've seen. Dealt with the issues and conflicts in a really engrossing way. Just the right amount of humour / seriousness and charm / violence.

I watched this film last night, and thought it was a slow , badly acted piece of dog doodoo.

Two hours of nothing much really, and i'm not the type who needs explosions to make a film.

I should point out that i was born in 1973, and grew up in thatchers britain during that time....the film was still crap.

Fair enough...

I LOVED it, like every other Shane Meadows film I have seen. He is one of the best british filmmakers alive today IMHO. I didn't see any bad acting at all, either - who in particualr?

It looks great, but it's not available through Blockbuster Online, which means I'll probably never watch it. Having to leave my house and actually go to the movie store seems... like an impossible chore.

But it looks great. I love thinking about nationalism.

I loved it, thought the acting was great too.

It's only been released in the cinema for a month or so btw, won't be on DVD for rental for a while.

Haven't seen it yet, but I loved A Room For Romeo Brass and Dead Man's Shoes so I'm expecting this one to be good too.

Have only seen Dead Mans Shoes which I thought was fantastic... whilst I never experienced anything as sombre as the plot the characters and environment were scarily reminiscent of that I grew up in which made the film all the more compelling. I've been meaning to see This is England for a while so I think you have just prompted me to go tonight. I'll let you know what I thought tomorrow...

They have Hinckley, but no Sheffield or Portsmouth or other places :? . If you look on the map, the place where the red lines from Derby, Nottingham and Leicester meet on the M1, thats LE11! Perfect positioning...

At least Skegness is on it! Love that place.

Went skeggy last time I was at home for shits and giggles... Was pretty cold but you can't beat wasting a fiver on Time Crisis in the arcade.

Missed this thread (sorry to resurrect it!) but loved the film. Right up my street as I'm into the Trojan records early skin head movement and I really hate how it is always associated with the BNP infiltration.
My only gripe about the film is there’s no scooters! (off to a scooter rally tomorrow - though I don't have a scooter at the min  due to the birds moaning)

Best line by far:

Do ya want to suck me tits?

Yeh it had a great soundtrack. Really into the old reggae stuff, Toots and the Maytals and all that...

That was a great line. I also liked the whole explaining her name to the lads mum bit too... 'It's not because I smell...'

Can it be possible to be a good Mod and a skaite?

I would pollify the question but the majority of the yanks on 'ere have no idea of either.
