I agree that there was a strong motif for the US to fake it, but one point must be remembered: how do you keep so many people involved quite for nearly 40 years?

the main question here is motive, why would America pretend to do such a thing when they had the tech to actually do it?

First, I'll say how I stand on this topic. I do believe it was a conspiracy - believe being the key word in here. I haven't poured over pictures and videos to find stuff that proves one thing or other, but I find it makes sense that it didn't really happen, at least not at that time. If I were shown good enough proof I'd change my mind, not go WELL YOU SUCK NOOB GFY

Now, to the question I quoted. Going into space is very complicated. You may have the technology to do so, but it doesn't mean you can do so safely. The technology for crossing the Atlantic Ocean had existed in Europe for years before said ocean was actually crossed, because just because you have a ship that can go to place X doesn't mean you'll jump ahead and go there.

Now, if you look at the history of space exploration, the Soviets had the lead in everything. They were the first to put an object in space; the first to put a living being in space; the first to put a human being in space. Why did they suddenly fall behind?

The main fact that convinced me this might be a hoax is that, in 1960, the US president (I forgot who it was, I'm not American so screw you) said that he was sure that, by the end of that decade, the US would have set foot in the moon. When did it happen? 1969 - the last year of the decade. Coincidence? Possibly, but not likely.

And, maybe I should have read the other thread, as I'm probably repeating what's been said there, but I like the sound of my own posts.

I missed this. Here's another reason for disbelieving the hoax theories which I don't think has been mentioned in the other thread (but I could be wrong) - the source of the radio signals from the Apollo craft would have been easy to check by the USSR.

If you accept that the USSR and the USA were in a space race during that decade, in which a lot of prestige was at stake, (which you seem to do), why didn't the USSR call foul when the radio signals were found to be a hoax, and not coming from the Moon?
