I think elves have children much more rarely.

Since they are immortal, they can go centuries, even millinia without having kids. Not sure if they can kept away from each other for that long though . But still, they'd alomst assuredly expand at a slower rate.

You mean the Hall of Mandos? Yes, the dead of the Elves go there but can't leave last I checked.
I'd figure, since they're immortal, populations grew slower that the human norm being that Legolas was a few centuries old. Not sure how old Arwen is. I recall something now, Oh right, she is related, though many many generations removed, to her husband Aragorn/Elessar. Normally, I'd find that quite disturbing.

Yes, they are in essence, one in the same as the Halls of Mandos are in Valinor. They are also referred to as the Halls of Waiting. However, after some time, some Elves could be re-embodied and return to Aman.
Arwen was born in 241 of the Third Age. After Aragorn died in 120 of the Fourth Age, she disappeared into Lorien, which was now empty, and was never seen again. That would put her at 2900 years old when she disappeared.

Yeah, its weird the Arwen/Aragorn relationship. I tried tracing both family trees. Arwen's is easy, daughter of Elrond.
Now Elrond had a brother Elros. Elros decided to be counted "amongst the kin of men", and became the frist King of Numenor. This is where it gets weird. About 35-40 generations separate Isildur from Aragorn. Isidur's father was Elendil, whose father was Amandil.
I can't seem to find a direct connection between Elendil (the exiled Numenorean king) and Elros (the first King of Numenor).
Elros was born in 525 of the First Age, and Aragorn was born in 2931 of the Third Age. That's over 6400 years.
But if Aragorn could be directly descended from Elros, that would make he and Arwen cousins!

I can't believe I just worked all that out. I must be a geek.

Aragorn is a direct decendant of Elros, at least as far as the data allows us to guess. So, yes, Aragorn is a cousin-marring Hick !
