yeah, running can be boring but seriously lads, if anybody wants a US scholarship, just take up athletics, im irish, nothing too special, would be up there nationally, but i have heard of people who are total shite(pardon my french) getin a scholarship in da us somewhere in the back arse of now where!(again the french)

its so easy to get 1. just trainin for six months run a sub 4:30 1500m and you got one. I saw others get one with less!!! haha.
ruuning=scholarship
cause every college wants runners! and not many people run (compared to like football)

You have to be REALLY good to get a running scholarship. Around 4:15 for any D1 school.

with a bit of training by the age of 17 most people ar capeable of that, and since most dont need to run it til they leave school at 18, maybe 19 for some, its very possible!
i have ran 3:59, and i run but im not anywhere near the best and im just gone 17.

The current world record in the mile is 3:43.13, set by Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco on July 7, 1999. The current women’s record is 4:12.56 by Svetlana Masterkova of Russia, set on August 14, 1996.

D1 is the league of U.S. universities that are the very best in athletics (not necessarily academics).

Oh, i thought he said the mile.
Either way, that's only 100 meters... sub 4 is still very hard to do.

sub 4 2 months ago! :-D not hard, anybody that puts their mind to it is more than capable of it. and i dont meanlike only runners. i know a few people who do loadz of sports and dont specialise in anything and they can still do it. once you go below it, it gets very hard to improve on, but actually just brwakin 4 is do-able.
A guy that started training from scratch 11 months ago did it!

like over here or in england to get a scholarship is difficult, you would want to be running sub 3:52 to get a full scholarship, i think in england it is slightly harder to. in america it is much easier cause there are a lot more scholarships available!

Talkin about the 1500m here. not the mile, miles are rarely run in comparison, 1500m is what most athletes would speak about. (and its what they run in the olmypics!)

The record at this distance for men is:

* Hicham El Guerrouj (Morocco) 3:26.00 Rome 14 July 1998

For women:

* Qu Yunxia (China) 3:50.46 Beijing 11 September 1993

Where i live, girls do 1500, boys do the mile.

Good job wicked. It's a respectable time.

I'm rolling around 21:40ish but injuries have been hampering my progress. Hope to get into the 19's before the end of the year.

My friend James Cameron ran a 4:12 1600 (mile) at CIF prelims this year... that's tying the woman's world record. Women are a lot slower than guys.

But I'm thinking he means he ran a 3:59 1500, that's the normal distance. 1600 meters is only done in U.S. high schools, I believe.

no, you can do it in most places , for time purposes only though most the time, normaly would not feature in any kind of champioships i dont think. So people who want to do well in major championships wouldnt focus on it, proberly only use it for training purposes.
