there's a mice epidemic in my condo building and I've made the decision to get a cat.
I've seen many in my unit, traps have caught a few over the past year.

But then I remember the exterminator stopped by my place a couple weeks ago and put poison underneath the kitchen sink and within a vent near pipes or something. he didnt think it would be an issue if decided to get a cat. The poison is in spots where the cat would not be able to get to but what if the cat ate a mouse infected with poison? i dont want the cat to have poison absorbed into its system and die.


what should i do? im getting sick of these mice and i see a cat as the only real solution

1)get a pregnant cat, that will mean it wont matter if one dies coz you have another spare...cold hearted approach

2)get a pregnant cat and sell kittens so you can pay for some mouse traps...less cold hearted approach

3)(get someone to/you) remove the poison and then get the cat and cross your fingers you got it all

4)find the mouse hole and then fill it up with some insulating polystyrene, it will expand so the mice cant get out and will die

I built one for my cousin and within 3 days he had caught 7 mice, and hasn't seen one since

Not to suggest anyone is going to care but, regular antifreeze, glycol causes kidney failure and I've heard it's a nasty way for something to die. Might want to go with the water or humane empty bucket method. Just sayin'.

Get rid of all the poison and buy a ferret.

At least you haven't had a pack rat sneak into your house. Those things are as bigs as cats!

We tried two different approaches at the same time to get rid of it. First, the humane trap (a cage that would just trap it with bait at the end of it) and the rat trap (oversized mouse trap basically and used the same bait). The rat chose the lethal way, though we never actually caught it. We found the lethal trap sprung, and a bunch of blood. We never found the body and assumed it ran off outside somewhere.

I used to sell poison at our local F&F. I can tell you from my seminar training that it's the type of poison matters. Some poisons will be given in a small enough dose that it won't kill something as big as a cat. Especially if it has already reacted with the mouse's tissue. But most can make a cat sick. You need specifics.

When I got a cat, the problem stopped immedialtely. We used to use all kinds of poisons/traps, and that would kill them off, but then they came back in a month or so. Let the cat outside whenever it wants, let it hunt some rats and pigeons, then the problem should stop.

A cat can get poisoned by eating dead mice.

Try a Guinea pig They make noises the mice don't like.

Also, seal all food in mouse-proof containers. ( this won't eliminate them, but it will help .. and if mice are around, is a healthier thing to do anyway).

that leaving lion droppings around will scare off most mammals. And I believe it's easy to buy them. (again I can't confirm that, never having had the need)

I have yet to see Wal-Mart have lion droppings in stock.

I've seen them advertised in the UK. For keeping wildlife(and cats) out of your garden.
