1) I'm thinking of applying for Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford; and possibly to an American university for an economics course, but I'm assured by chances aren't high for either, and a are virtually 0 if I want to go somewhere good in the US, especially since I'd need a scholarship.

2) Very occasionally, never, never.

Actually, there are plenty of little-know but very good colleges in the States -- you could probably get into one of them.

i almost did PPE at my alma mater, but when i found how similar it was to the History curriculum while often using text books for the material instead of the primary source focus of the History Department, i opted for history.

granted, i didn't get as thorough an education in econ as those who majored in it did, or to a lesser extent, the PPE guys, but i read the primary sources they only read paraphrased.

as for what'll happen to Nappy in college... he'll fall head over heels for a girl that would make his parents absolutely flip out, you know, mother fainting, father's bowtie suddenly spinning inexplicably, the family shrine to Reagan falling off the mantle and breaking ominously.

she'll be something like a pagan girl who puts on black nail polish and listens to "rock and roll" (ie. devil music) and who reads Chomsky and drinks coffee and smokes cigarettes. she will show Nappy what "love" is and they will groove on nature together.

and he will mellow out. he won't ever become a liberal. i doubt that. but he'll mellow out into something resembling a moderate. but i think deep down, he'll always want a woman who's a polar opposite of him politically, to keep him sharp. and the right girl will be the one who thrives on constantly arguing as well. in fact, i could see this couple expressing affection for one another by arguing over who is the worst columnist in the NYTimes.

Then indulging in some kind of weird sado-masochistic aggression-venting spree.

If you want to know what I'm talking about then you should read this. Then imagine it with the sexes reversed... that's Nappy and this girl's (let's call her 'Phoenix-Chi') bedroom dynamic right there.

He's come out with some crap, sure. But its normally crap with five syllables to a word. In a post grad, I'd be critical of that, as...hmmm...how to put...wank.
But with Nap, it merely shows the guys massive intellectual weight - hes got plenty of time to slim down his verbeage.
My point was the sheer raw intelligence of the guy - not the views he was "spouting".
Thus, he will kick some serious arse at uni, provided he stays focused.

No, no...you'll be surprised to hear I was specifically told I couldn't "like some American redneck" put up a picture of "that awful man" in my room by my father. My parents also blocked FOX News International on our cable subscription for fear I'd become too fascist (after my grandmother, who votes for Laguiller's "Lutte Ouvrière", caught me watching the O'Reilly Factor and was horrified).

Hyper conservative douche bag...new one. Well done. I got to say though, it's interesting how you juxtapose political belief and personal qualities so readily, everywhere, without really seeking to understand your opposition's arguments, nor see rightists as human beings. What regresso-defensive Freudian mechanism caused that, I wonder?

 That's a rather amusing story. I can picture it as something my dad would do, except in the other direction, of course.

I've just been watching Steven Colbert.
Has anyone ever seen him and Nappy in the same room at the same time?

Douchebag. I only pick the most recent example (granted, it's 15-odd years old, but it's new on the internetz)
