Nahhh, The Kinks and The Who started what would later become known as punk...

No, I do believe what I said. Until I am given factual evidence that the Americans landed on the moon I won't believe it.

The space race was big propaganda at the time of the Cold War. The Americans were always behind the Russians, then they magically managed to solve every problem they had, land on the moon before the Russians and return safely back. I find it hard to believe. America needed a moral victory at that moment in time.

Of course if present day technology like the mapping of the moon mentioned by Pedronicus proves me wrong I will gladly believe it. Until then I won't.

...and you would consider what to be evidence? The fact that the radio and TV signals at the time came from the moon and were picked up all around the world isn't enough? Or that scientists all around the world were going through all the evidence that came back to answer various questions about the composition, history, etc of the moon - they were all fooled? or were they all in on the conspiracy? Or that a radar corner at the site of the Apollo11 landing will still bounce back a signal?

Thousands of people saw the launch of the Saturn V's carrying the Apollo astronauts live, and millions round the world on TV. At what point was the "fake" slipped in? We have far better evidence, examined by more people, for the moon program than for most events in world history.

Personally I won't believe in you until I'm shown irreutable evidence that you exist. Even then you might be a clever actor. Or even a dumb one.

Did you know that the staple food in Colon Britain was, in actuality, Colon Sandwiches?

Odd that British "cuisine" hasn't progressed much. Although I suppose anyplace that serves "Bangers and Mash" and haggis would also proudly serve Colon Sandwiches.

A transcription error - actually, the bloke that make the sandwiches was called "Colin".

I really believe there are people out there who could stand on the moon, and would want to.
The only problem is, breaking free of the moons gravity, re linking up with an orbitor, flying back to earth & surviving.

A one way trip is possible, but no returns on this adventure - and you would have people cuing round the block to go. It would be exactly the same for a trip to mars. If you were one of the first 4 people to set foot on mars and you died there, you would be as famous, if not more so, than Scott of the Antarctic, James Cook, Marco Polo, and that Christopher Columbus chap who discovered that ghastly country who lie about landing on the moon.

What we need to do is treat the moon as base camp when trying to climb everest or walking to the south pole. We need to launch tons of shit at it unmanned, land it undamaged, then send some one way engineers to get something built. until the moon becomes a low gravity launch pad / space port for other space projects, the world is missing a massive space opportunity.

We have a unique sized moon in relationship to the size of our planet. We should use it. We aren't.
We never went there.

It's an unusual thing to see someone say on a CC forum, but you're right and I was wrong. My memory of the era told me that the initial impetus came from the UK, and that a whole slew of bands exploded into action in a very short time. Somewhere on the fringes were the Ramones (or, as we called them, the "Ram Ones"), and the B-52's and so forth. But a quick check of dates shows me that indeed the Ramones were there first.

I thought at first you were going to argue for The New York Dolls, or MC5 etc being "proto-punk", which is true, and I was all ready to counter that with other Brit influences. But I was wrong about that too, you merely wanted to claim precedence 'cos they were there first. An unfair way of arguing.

I'm going to give it as a tie between USA, Great Britain, and Ancient Rome, looking at influence, longevity, and stability. Of course, all of these have had blips in at least one of these categories, but those are the three that stand out.

Although, the USA one is debatable as the longevity issue hasn't really been decided. But I don't really see the US as completely collapsing any time soon, so I'm gonna go ahead and give it the benefit of the doubt.

"What", not "who". It's a transport for nuclear waste, whenever one comes through there are usually a lot of protests and demonstrations going on.

The US is actually a legacy of the British Empire. For longevity, stability and influence purposes nothing comes close to the Roman Republic/Empire though. Even the British Empire and the US have been affected by Ancient Rome as has all Western civilisation.

I just stated my personal opinion. I don't need you to believe in it or in me. Everyone is free to believe what he wants.

So why haven't Americans landed on the moon in the past 35 years or more if they already landed on it in 1969? With today's advances in technology they should be landing there at least once a year.

Actually, it was done several other times, not just the one time. It was done about 6 times between 1969 and 1972, and they collected what was needed, did their tests, and so on. Not exactly hard information to come across, actually quite easy. Also, when the USSR (the US's greatest enemy and rival of the time) observed it themselves with their satellites, it also blows the whole "moon landing was filmed in a dessert!" I mean seriously, actually look it up this stuff, it helps quite a bit.
