Quite a few republicans are supposedly considering the other side this year.

I don't really dislike Hilary, in fact I agree with her more than with Obama, but she is very strongly disliked by a lot of republicans and even democrats.

What the US needs now is a democratic president who can make a bridge between both sides. I think Obama is better suited for than than Hillary.

But telling her to outright step down is like a slap in the face to half of the party. And, even though I fear you might be right that the party will suffer, my brain tells me that that's ridiculous, and just a distant nightmare. I don't think McCain will be able to last long against Obama when it comes down to it.

While commentators debate the value of Clinton staying in the race, I actually believe that it's bad for the party, and that this fact is becoming increasingly clear. 2 against 1 isn't a fair fight. I am by no means a SERIOUS DEMOCRAT, but the Democratic party is the only hope I have for U.S. American politics in the short-term. So... I gotta do what I can, including berating Brits who dare contest Obama's inevitable nomination.

Well obviously in that regard it doesn't matter who steps down. The problem is that Hillary and Obama are focusing on eachother while McCain can gather info and campaign for the presidency already. The democrats are behind now because they're not settled yet on who gets the chance. And they're even hurting eachothers's chances by attacking because they're basically telling people to either vote for them or vote for some evil person. (Like Hillary trying to assert Obama is not in touch with the average family people, which could mean her supporters go to McCain instead of Obama.)

One of the two has to step down sometime, and seeing as Hillary only has a slim chance of still winning I think she needs to be the one to step down.

Obama will not become President, his race is starting to turn on him.

from African-American commentator and author, Juan Williams
Barack Obama chose to be associated with ... Wright because he saw advantage in it. This speaks to his character, and to his judgement, the [entire] basis on which he has been running his campaign.

from a prominent African-American intellectual, Dr Thomas Sowell
while Hillary Clinton tells lies, Barack Obama is himself a lie. That is becoming painfully apparent with each new revelation of how drastically his carefully crafted image this election year contrasts with what he has actually been saying and doing for many years.

"There is not a speck of evidence that Obama has ever transcended party differences in the United States Senate. Voting records analysed by the National Journal show him to be the farthest left of anyone in the Senate. Nor has he sponsored any significant bipartisan legislation - nor any other significant legislation, for that matter ...

"His behaviour has been remarkably consistent over the years. He has sought out and joined with the radical, anti-Western left, whether Jeremiah Wright, William Ayers of the terrorist Weatherman underground, or the anti-Israeli Rashid Khalidi.

from Dr Shelby Steele, of Stanford University
His actual policy positions are little more than Democratic Party boilerplate and hardly a tick different from Hillary's positions. He espouses no galvanising political idea. He is unable to say what he means by 'change' or 'hope' or 'the future'. And he has failed to say how he would actually be a 'unifier'. By the evidence of his slight political record (130 'present' votes in the Illinois state legislature, little achievement in the US Senate) Barack Obama stacks up as something of a mediocrity.

Sure, but by the time they get to the actual election the whole Wright thing will be old hat. Americans can't be appalled at something forever after all. As for him being nothing but a "hope and change" candidate, he kind of is. Will the average American care? I suppose it comes down to what your opinion of your random American is. I put them square between retarded and incompetent.

I'll probably cry, drink a few extra drinks, and go to work the next day as always.
And then finally the truth will hit me and I'll be glad. Hillary can't vote in the senate anymore.

Most likely she will loose to McCain. Happiness will ensure. Our men and women in the armed services will be safe. (Remember Hillary wants to get the troops out of Iraq and into Afganistan which is now getting far hotter than Iraq.) The potential renewal of the American Holocost of the unborn will not occur. And the dreams of Vice President Elliot Spitzer will never be realized. And then in 8 years Vice President J.C. Watts will be elected the first true African American (and professional Canadian Football Quarterback) President of the United States of America. Yes I have a dream! (So don't let facts get in the way of it!)

Looking back at the school of historical hard knocks I see an obvious fact. Unless you have been though hell and back you don't know what hell is. I really think that if you want someone to think first and foremost about the safety of our armed forces you need a veteran. A veteran who was a POW is a plus. A veteran who was a POW in a hell hole (Japan and Vietnam certanly qualify, Germany where my father was a POW would be a half hell hole) is a double plus.

This is why in the short run Bush has been very bad for the armed services. From poor equipment to infinitely extended tours of duty (infinitely worse than Vietnam) to failed policies in terms of the scale of troop deployment our armed forces are constantly put in harms way.

McCain has made it very clear that he wants to reduce casualties. Clinton and Obama wants to pull out of Iraq but Clinton has also suggested that she wants to put more troops into Afganistan which is probably more dangerous than Iraq at the moment and is getting worse on a daily basis. And then there is the question of Iran.

McCain fought for and killed a bad aircraft refuling deal. It is clear he is more in support of the men than he is of the armed forces industry lobby. That's why I think he is better for their safety and well being in the short and long term.

But you don't have any obligation to make that better seeing as how you guys wanted to attack it?
Also, you're kind of ignoring the fact that increasing the troop-count in Afghanistan will make is more safer.

Anyway, I was more commenting on your usage of the word "safe", which seems rather foolish to say about people in a fucking war-zone.

This election has already made history ... and will continue to do so.I just don't want McCain.

But, the thought of an ex-president as a presidential spouse ... is interesting politically.

Actually neither Iraq or Afganistan technically count as a "war zone" but as an "insurgency zone." War zones are easy, you know the enemy and you are always on a high state of alert. "Insurgency zones" are worse because they look just like any ordinary place. You can't really secure an insurgency zone as you can a war zone.

Back to my point. Getting the troops out of Iraq is meaningless if it means they just have more extended deployments in Afganistan. If the goal is to "get Bin Laden" then neither is achieving the goal because he is in Pakistan and we are not going to invade a nuclear power any time soon.

So once again Democrats lie to the American people. They want an end to war, they want their boys and girls back home safe. So when they hear "I'm going to pull them out of Iraq" they assume that means they would then go home. Both Hillary and Barack share one thing in common; their talk always seems to be the exact opposite of their actions. Just look at their voting record. Barack the great voter for legislation that divides. Hillary the war mongering liberal.

As I said I would rather put a Ex POW as president to keep our troops safe because I don't trust civilians ... and I are one.
