and no, moron, Rap is NOT THE SAME as hip-hop. try picking up a fucking dictionary instead of your AM radio to listen to Limbaugh you uninformed, ignorant fool. rapping is a component of hip hop, not the sum total.

it's like saying acapella = rock and roll. it's not.

1. I read what you wrote, you were trying to make a claim about James Brown being a part of of hip hop, when the two are completely different.

2. Want to try some rap and hip hop artists as examples? Also, I don't listen to AM radio, I listen to whatever the hell I want to, whether you like it or not. So stop stereotyping you pompous baffoon.

3. Do you even KNOW what accapella is? It may not "=rock n roll" but it is included in not only rock, but nearly every style of music. It is not a separate style unto itself.

3. no you stupid shit. and look, you started with the name calling first, for the record -- acappella is a component of the song. just like rapping is a COMPONENT of hip hop.

that is what i said, in ENGLISH. CLEARLY. maybe you need to learn english better.

same thing with the james brown thing. jesus fucking christ, are you stoned? i'm not gonna bother with this, it's like trying to explain things to a retarded chimpanzee. i was using James Brown as an analogy. do you know what that word means? i never said James Brown was hip hop, but there are songs in which Brown raps. i don't expect you to know the difference, being so enclosed in your xenophobe bubble of white-bread culture.

and enough of this. i actually thing you're a pretty cool guy, but jesus, are you fucking dense about this.

I'm not a yank. I live in the West in a state that wasn't even a territory until 3 years after the Civil War ended. I have never lived on the East coast, much less new england, so watch it billy bob.

If you aren't in the south, then you're a yank. Unless you're in California, then you're gay or Mexican.

Now billy bob, stop drinking the moonshine for a bit, and realize that the Western States are about as different as new england and the South are. Unless of course, you wish to include the ever cocky Texas as a purely Southern State?

Texas is basically the South except they're all pompous pricks. So they're like the South. That said, aside from the stupid accents I've never really noticed a difference between New England and the rest of the "North". Care to enlighten me?

Surely only the actual Union states (which inculde California) count as "Yank", despite "Yank" being more broadly used by those outside the US as a blanket insult?

yes, this is true, but as btownmeggy astutely points out, the southie/ Dorchester Boston accent is less of a New England thing than a Boston thing. sort of like the Long Island vs. Brooklyn accents present in New York City, or the distinct Philadelphia twang.

however, outside the pronunciations distinct to urban centers, there isn't too much variation from suburban wasteland to suburban wasteland, spanning the North.

I heard that the Boston accent is the closest thing to proper Shakesperean diction around today.

I think we've covered the fact that Texans are just compensating to begin with (Nataki et al. 2008), so lump them in with the Mexicans/gays in California. And the moonshine isn't ready yet, though you're welcome to a cup when it's done, if you've got the balls.

true dat.

and of course, in Philly, you've got such great words such as (and try to guess how they'd be pronounced by locals):

1. Passyunk
2. Schuylkill
3. Wilder

(a quick tip to those visiting NYC before i provide the phonetic pronunciations -- Houston street is not pronounced like the city in Texas, it is pronounced as "House - Ton" -- which is the proper way to say that word. say it like i suggest, and people will not think you are an idiot/ someone who needs to be mugged)

1. Pash-Unk
2. Skoo-Kill
3. Will-Der. not Wild-er.

dig.

When I first moved to Columbus, I came in contact from people who go to Jordan High School. Turns out, the get all pissy when you pronounce it how it's spelled. Here, you have to say "Jerdon." I seriously got irritated enough about this to tell someone to f*ck off when they asked me if I went to Jordan High. The funny thing is, the idiots are so used to pronouncing it wrong, people named Jordan have to put up with everyone pronouncing it wrong. It bothers me to no end...

No way, seriously? I can't even begin to imagine that, I can't think of a less appropriate accent. If that's true then I'll stick with what we've got currently.
