Do you have a text book for this class? It might have it in there.

I don't think I've ever used the Internet for classes except for big projects.

Alright Paradice. I'm just going to copy and paste the sentences that i think are key.
And then maybe give you the benefit of my analysis at the end. Hurrah.

"Together the three empires possessed great military and political power"

most medieval empires, including the muslim/oriental ones were held together by MILITARY POWER. An effective king was often simply a king that won his battles, and had control of his generals.

"They built empires through military conquest based on the effective use of firearms. Each was ruled by an absolute monarch and drew revenues from taxation of agrarian populations."
so the importance of gunpowder/firearms. The system of government, of all three was ABSOLUTE MONARCHY. In theory, this meant that the king could do anything he wanted-complete power.
Often (though you should check this with these three empires) the absolute monarch would have a quasi-religious status, as in "God's Annointed Ruler".

All three raised revenue from farmlands ("agrarian populations").
This is relevant to how they ruled their empires, because without money, no king can pay his army, and without his army, he would be killed/deposed/severley weakened.

"Military leaders had a dominant role in the Ottoman state, a polity geared to war and expansion. The Turkic horsemen became a warrior aristocracy supported by control of conquered land and peasants. When their power shrank before that of an expanding central bureaucracy, they built up regional power bases. From the middle of the fifteenth century, imperial armies were dominated by Janissary infantry divisions composed of conscripted youths from conquered lands. Their control of artillery and firearms gave them great power; by the middle of the sixteenth century, they intervened in dynastic succession disputes. "

This bit basically sums up THE STRUCTURE OF POWER in the Ottoman regime.Again, it was MILITARISTIC-"a polity geared to war and expansion"-conquest was what the Ottomans were really keen on.
The horseman became the aristocracy (loosely parallel or equivalent to the Feudal knights of western Europe).
BUT ONE BIG DIFFERENCE between the Ottomans and western europe is revealed in that throw away line which is arguably the key phrase in the paragraph:
"when their power shrank before that of an expanding CENTRAL BUREAUCRACY". This is a very important "caveat" (which means qualifying sentence eg "evryone is rich APART from Tim-TIm is the caveat to the generalization "everyone is rich"). its a caveat because this article keeps banging on about the imporatnce of military power, but in fact ultimately it was the Ottomans development of a sophisticated centralized bureaucracy that kept the dynasty in power for over fivde hundred years.
This might be a point that is best made in your conclusion.

Firearms is mentioned again, so i guess that was important in the aristocracy keeping control of the regions.
That bit about the Janissary infantry is in fact suggesting a WEAKNESS in how the Ottomans ruled their empire. If the janissary were intervening in succession disputes, then the central government of the Ottomans was clearly getting weaker. In the zenith of Ottoman power (which it says was in the mid sixteenth century), no one but the Sultan (the King equivalent) would have been able to decide the succession. The fact that the soldiers could, fifty years later, shows that the Otoman empire was in decline.
Because,...you've guessed it!-the Sultan had lost control of his military.

Here here. He should learn to think before he types. Probably some sore Metallica fan who's mad that his band hasn't made a good album in almost a decade.

College is for pussies. Real men work a shitty job for most of their lives and get midlife-crisises where they buy a motorcycle and roam the country.

If I did that, I'd probably snap long before I could have a midlife-crisis and do somethings I might regret the day after it was all over.

Go to college; surest way to prevent midlife-crisis and make good money when you've got that degree.

Real men may break their backs for nothing, smart men learn to use their backs wisely and end up higher on the hog in the long run.
