Josh’s Projected NCAA Tourney Teams. Bubble teams at this time would be included to make up the 64 team roster for March Madness barring an upset in the conference tournament. This was based off of the records that were available on page 1 yesterday at noon. I didn't include the 65th team for the play-in game since I figured it would come from an upset in a conference tourney.

Postby plash.ricrem on Fri Jan 30, 2009 3:47 pm

The following is a transcript of the post game news conference following Vermont's 6 round home victory against GW (4144564) in the 2nd to last game of the regular season... pushing the cats record to 14-13...

*Coach Ricrem is sipping out of a Magic Hat Circus Boy as he addresses the media* "Well, this was a crucial victory given the current state of the conference. It makes next week's game even more important (in an attempt to finish 15-13 instead of 14-14 in the regular season). I'm hoping that Rhode Island can take down Duquesne at home, this weekend, to pretty much sew up the 3 seed for us."

Media Member 1: What do you think was the key to today's game?

PR: Definitely our zone defense. We thought the opposition had a good start at first (pretty decent drop) but we were able to come up with some clutch defensive stops (GW's inabiity to take a territory in round 2 really swung the tide). From there we were able to use our transition offense (newly acquired +2 bonus) to do some more damage. The key though was our outside shooting. We got hot (3 card mixed set after 3 rounds) and buried them for all intensive purposes. It was a quick, clean victory, and I hope next week will be more of the same.

MM 2: "Any thoughts about the bracketology that was posted today?"

PR: *slams bottle down in frustration*: "Yeah, in fact I do have some stuff to stay about that pile of #*$). Play in Game? PLAY IN GAME? I will say this to Flex and the rest of the committee, you have done a good job in firing up my squad. We're going to be hungry next week and prove to you we're better then playing in some stinking play in game....

MM 1: "You do realize however that your team now sits at a game over .500?"

PR: Trivialities. Look at our record since I got here (name change from Temple to Vermont.) We're 11-6 in conference, have gone 12-7 overall, have defeated 2 top 20 teams (including #3 Eastern Michigan on the road) and have played #1 Rhode Island tight in both conference games (By Rhode Island's own admission mind you). I mean yes, I know the A-10 isn't the strongest conference in the NCAA this year, but still I think we deserve some respect.

MM2: So you feel slighted over the choosing of other bubble teams in the conference (St. Bonnies and Duqense) ahead of you?

PR: Yes. I mean sure, I understand Duquense has been playing quite well lately (they had won something like 4 in a row before losing to Xavier, and then bounced back with a home victory over us) so I can buy that. But the Bonnies really make me scratch my head. I mean they were a top 20 team earlier in the season, but have simply free fallen since then. Looking at the stats they started 7-2 and were up to 16th in nation before they lost back to back games to X and ourselves. I see they're now 14-13 overall but only 6-10 in conference... The good news is looking at the schedule, I think we play them next week in our last regular season game (at home no less) so we can settle this on the hardwood!

PR: "Well that's about it for now, I've got to go throw a couple more of these back, and watch some game tape. I hope everyone has a great weekend!"

*** Transcript of Fresno State coach Steve Cleveland's press conference this afternoon ***

*Cleveland pours himself a Scotch on the rocks*

Cleveland: I'd also like to say something about this play-in game. The boys aren't looking too good on the court right now against Hawaii, so we probably won't have the honor of facing Mr. Ricrem's squad--

Press: Wait, back up... on the court now? As in, the game is going on at this moment? Shouldn't you be coaching?

Cleveland: What? Uh... Gotta go.

*Cleveland bounds down the steps and out the door*

Press: What a moron.

*Cleveland runs back into the room, grabs his glass of Scotch, and runs back out*
I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me.

reporter: it appears bowling green's kids are really fired up winning two games today Game 4094024 and Game 4125290 in a matter of 20 minutes. i suspect it's something to do with them getting snubbed again in the bracketology because i overheard this from coach knighthawk, "how is pittsburgh a 1 and were a 2, were 1-0 against the big east and them 0-2 against the mac, plus we have the second best overall record just like we did when we were a four seed a couple of bracketologies ago..." In any case with these wins the eagles wrap up the regular season mac crown and can start preparing for the tourney.

The Bears are playing hoops on a field...that explains their troubles this year after a stellar 2007-08 season. Hey NightStrike it's not Wimbledon...tell your AD to put in some hardwood

You guys are cracking me up with your reports AND doing most of my research for me. Nice!!! Remember bracketology isn't official...by the time the final draw is released Portland State will find its way (wink, wink) to a No. 1 seed. :-$

Also, thanks to whoever shipped over the box of Twinkies...(you know who you are) I haven't had them in years...delicious and you've been bumped up 3 seeds for your bribery 8-[

Steelers 34, Arizona 17....just my two cents, although I'll be rooting for the Cards.

Game 4144472

#19 Tigers annihilate #16 Jackets in front of national audience, clinch ACC

In what might well be the Game of the Week, ACC powerhouses Clemson and Georgia Tech met with the prime time lights blazing. And in decisive fashion, Clemson wiped out the Yellow Jackets in eight rounds to clinch the ACC, win their fifth straight, and send a message to the rest of college basketball - the Atomic Tigers are out for blood.

"You can outrank us, you can get the hype, you can pretend you're big and bad," coach Aesop Jones boasted, "but if you come into our house, we will drop a bomb on you. Literally. It's hanging at mid-court. Look at that thing." When the press realized that actually WAS a bomb hanging in mid-court, the conference promptly ended. Speculation as to whether or not this factors into Clemson's mostly non-existent media coverage is rampant.
