Classic 4X

OK. let me give you a bit of background for the idea behind this map.
I was reading over some variant sites and found that people put 2 or more boards together and connect them across just as the green and red connect across the board already.

So I crudely made a small map with 4 boards.
    1)Same GP
2)same connections as classic but with 4X the territories.
    3) Same bonus

I figured that wording could be done as 2 letter and 1 number (3 letters shown) to show the location (i.e. Alaska 2 [top right] would be AL2)
I know the image is really bad right now. The shapes will need to be distorted to fit properly anyway.
let me know what you think.

TOP LEFT GREEN ALK connects to BOTTOM RIGHT RED ALK (Needs to be added in legend)
TOP RIGHT RED ALK connects to BOTTOM LEFT Green ALK (Needs to be added in legend)

Are those the only inter-board connections? That's a whole lot of bottleneckness...

If you go with that, though, maybe you should turn the top pair of maps upside down so that NW Kamchatka is right next to SW Alaska, and ditto for SE Kamchatka and NE Alaska.

I play this way in person when we have more than 6 people. "Multiple Earth Risk" we call it. This is especially nice when playing with people who's only strategy is "I'm taking Australia no matter what!!!!1!"

Actually, if we don't run into any copyright issues this could be a killer competition piece. Everyone has to come up with a 300x270 playable version of Classic and then the community picks the best 4 and they get put together into the map.

Awesome idea.

And I think the gameplay would be great as well.

So we like the idea?
I will flip the top portion of the map like Evil DIMwit suggested and make the map a big circle.

I will also try to get the feel of the original CC classic map. (colors, textures, font ext)

Any suggestions on the legend/Title/wording of bonuses?

They will only be 2 letters and a number (1-4)

So Alaska will be (AK1 / AK2 / AK3 / AK4) depending on which one of the 4 classics it lies

Naming all of the terts will be the challenge.

North America
AL-Alaska
NT-Northwest Territory
GR-Greenland
AB-Alberta
ON-Ontario
QU-Quebec
WU-Western United States
EU-Eastern United States
CA-Central America

South America
VE-Venezuela
PE-Peru
AR-Argentina
BZ-Brazil

Europe
IC-Iceland
SC-Scandinavia
UK-Ukraine
GB-Great Britain
NE-Northern Europe
WE-Western Europe
SE-Southern Europe

Asia
ME-Middle East
AF-Afghanistan
UR-Ural
SI-Siberia
YA-Yakutsk
KA-Kamchatka
IR-Irkutsk
MO-Mongolia
JA-Japan
CH-China
IN-India
SI-Siam

Oceania
IO-Indonesia
NG-New Guinea
WU-Western Australia
EU-Eastern Australia

Africa
NA-North Africa
EG-Egypt
EA-East Africa
CO-Congo
SA-South Africa
MD-Madagascar

I am wondering if maybe it would be better to first set off the territories by map.

1AK
2AK
3AK
4AK

etc. to help players keep straight which map they are on. I only say this because I think more important that a territory being an Alaska is which map it is on.

Also, I think the bonus text is clear as it is. On one hand, having it in the middle sets off each map, reinforcing the idea that this is 4 maps stuck together. On the other hand, it does break up the maps. My personal preference is to keep the maps together and move the bonus text to the side.

The theme of this map should definitely be Time Cube.

Wow, is that guy, Dr. Gene Ray, messed up. I saw the Time Cube page years ago, and it was just a little wacky. Now it is just kilobytes of hate. (His English hasn't improved either.) Very sad, and a little scary.

On topic, this map could be quite fun. Anybody want to do the math on starts, bonus probabilities, and what not?

This is still going to happen (if there is a desire) but not until The HIVE map is closer to completion. Once that is coasting, i will get into this more.

Do people want to play a 4X classic map?
Please vote.

Hmmm.... Personally I preferred the time/place map, with different world maps from different ages - I'm sure that was one that was one of yours WM?

Yes it was. There were MANY issues with border security and numbers. (i.e. too many borders to make ti work in its current form)

You are free to leave an comments in the Time and Place map if you wish.

Vote yes. Classic has awesome gameplay. This map could work well for tournaments and team games. I think this would be a nice addition to the site.

haha. lol. Really I am not just typing this. i really laughed.

So you never joined two maps together to play risk this way. From what i have read and seen online, it is a popular variant for the game.

The variant works for as many boards as you wish. It is classic GP connected to as many Classic GP boards as you want. Very familiar to understand but unique the same way.

I have no big need to make this map. It will look better when it is done but I don't need to make it.

You know, if you took Classic Shapes, Classic Art, and Classic Revamp (always World Cities in my heart), you would only need one more version to make Classic 4X. Of course, I'm not sure which if any of these maps can be squashed enough to fit and still be legible.

EDIT:
On another thought, this map or an even larger combination might be good for a Battle Royale, eh?
