Queens and Kings

OK, this one comes on the back of Poison Rome and will be in the same vain.

It's the British Royal Family Tree from George 1 to William and Harry - although some lineage has been removed to fit the family in.

The reason i like this lineage is because there is a complete circle within the family, and although we can't muck around with the Gods, we can muck around with the law as in divorce, two World Wars, and the Paparazzi.

Anyway, let me know if you think this would make a good map in the poll above, and any thoughts below. :)

Also, at some stage we'll need to come up with a good title like "Poison Rome", but I would like to fill the gap of "Q" in the map alpha list. ;)

Would you be able to fit it all in the large size because right now your at 1023px × 651px. There is so much info that I think some of the family will have to be left out.

But yea, I'd play it.

Modern... not so much, If you go with the family tree from around the time of Queen Victoria, just about every monarch in Europe was somehow related to each other.

I certainly like the idea, and this would interest me more then the Poison Rome map.
As mentioned before, the huge time lapse between the first and last monarch on that diagram would look confused due to advances in technology in that time...I think you should cut off the last few hundred years and add some more opposing cousins etc.
Oh, and just as an idea: maybe you could have vertical bonuses in the way that 'French blood' affects several generations when a French person is married into the family.

Mmmm. Looks like players don't want to go for this map if the polls are already in the negative.

Maybe because you havn't given a real draft showing the gameplay yet :P

I urge you to give it a try...or at least give the gameplay some thought.

I'd guess that people are just a bit apprehensive about it because Poison Rome is a very difficult map, and a lot of players haven't got to grips with it yet.

Perhaps you could help conjure up some positive votes :?: :!: :?: ;)

Tupence, i wish i could agree with you, but i can't on the aspect that Poison Rome is a difficult map. :)
Sure it has different connections from what people might be used to, but that doesn't mean it is hard.
Heck, i can almost guarantee that Stalingrad will be harder than Poison Rome.

This has a been-there-done-that feel. Another family tree map? Another British map? How is this new?

i could say exactly the same about all the national geographic maps with standard gameplay. ;)
If we applied your logic, opportunity for new themes aould never arise.

It's not a matter of logic, it's a feeling. Standard geographic maps are the established norm so when one of those pops up I don't bat an eyelash. When funky abstract maps like Poison Rome come around I think, gee, that's different and neat. But when I try to visualize this prospective map I see essentially Poison Rome with different colors and different faces. It seems like you're proposing something that's different and neat in the same way that Poison Rome is different and neat -- resting, as it were, on your creative laurels. By all means put this map out if you want but it won't be half as special as Poison Rome was the first time around.

I don't mind resting on my creative laurels...they're outside the box of where some other mapmakers are when it comes to ideas.
As for being special, well i must agree with you, but then that depends on what i do graphically and gameplay wise with this one.
I understand where you're coming from though. :)
However, that doesn't mean that a portion of the English lineage of Royals can't also be represented on a similar map. I think the English would quite like it. :)

The look of Stalingrad terrifies me ;)
Maybe it is just the difference that means people aren't used to Poison Rome yet. More maps in the same vain would be nice though, it would make Poison Rome slightly less of a specialist map.
