Quebec City–Windsor Corridor

How about a map of the Quebec City–Windsor Corridor?

I've never made a map before and would like to capitalise on a joint venture.

Image

The above image is just showing what just the corridor looks like, but I'd think it'd be better to expand outwards to other cities like Barrie, Peterborough, Prince Edward County, and so forth.

The problem with corridors is that there are waaaaay too many choke points and waaaaay to few possible attack routes.

Sorry, I didn't really explain well enough.

What I meant was to expand beyond towards the north like the Sault and all of that

This google earth image better shows what I have in mind:

- The St. Lawrence and Great Lakes will also serve ports to jump across

I guess you'd have to defend it as being not too similar to the Great Lakes map, but as long as the gameplay and style are different enough this could work out quite well.

Alright, this is the basic layout of what the map will look like:

There are 48 "territories" which are the cities, 7 "continents" (plus 1 neutral territory)

"Continents":
- Saint Lawrence (magenta) 5 cities
- Ottawa Valley (orange) 5 cities
- Thousand Islands (light-blue) 7 cities
- Golden Horseshoe (gold) 9 cities
- Greenbelt (green) 11 cities
- Southwestern Ontario (indego) 5 cities
- Northeastern Ontario (cyan) 5 cities
- Val-d'Or (white) - connects North Bay to Montreal

The roads give some idea of the direction of movement.
Waterways will also be used to jump between the port cities (marked with stars).

Some areas do seem conjested due to google earth's poor organisation, so bare with me.
But they will be evenly distrubuted in the working version.

1. Put that big guy in big Img tags ;)

2, I suggest you go back to the drawing board, and unless you can Photoshop a nice clean image or outline with clear territs, I suggest you stick you diagrams. Try to work out gameplay for now, then get an artist.

Welcome to the foundry! ;)

Yes, this is my final version showing the gameplay -- I will start making the playable version in photoshop via vector graphics, now, along with the xml.

However, I anticipate that the geographical shape will be warped in order to accomodate room on the map for territories and proper image size.

You don't need to make the xml yet, and you will end op wasting time cause you will have to change the xml a lot more than if you were to start once the map had graphics or gameplay stamps.

I have never tried xml on any of my failed maps, although none of them ever leave the drafting room.

It should work out if you can come up with an unique playing experience. Are you planing on using any of the US cities to avoid choke points? If not then you'd have a major choke point from Toronto down to Windsor. Re inserting Val-d'Or might be an idea so you can go from Quebec City on over to North Bay. Also to eliminate the Windsor choke point you may want to think about having a route from London - Owen Sound - Tobermory - South Baymouth (that's on Manitoulin Island) on up to Sudbury. That should eliminate that.

This is what I have so far using photoshop:

- There are now 52 cities in all; adding Niagara Falls, Manitoulin, Elliot Lake.
- The routes of the Golden Horseshoe / Greenbelt / Southwestern Ontario areas aren't yet hammered out.
- The waterway routes are clearly shown in blue; armies can cross up to 2 sections of these routes at at time; ie: Winsdor is accessable to: Sarnia, Sault Ste. Marie, Parry Sound, Owen Sound, Welland, Toronto, and Kingston.

Hmmm .. where you have the city on Manitoulin Island is about where Mindemoya is. If you move it down to the very southwestern tip, it'll be good. Also Include Tobermory on the tip of the peninsula as well. Unlink Owen Sound from the other ports and then link Tobermory to the ports (considering the M.S. Chechemaun (?) runs from Tobermory I think).

I like the idea of the ports being able to attack two ports away, that should make for interesting game play.

Next draft please put in city names and mark out the territories so it will be clearer to understand.

This is the latest version with city names added:

If you think the names are a bit crunched, I agree, but it's a fight between space and pixel resolution.

Isaiah, I put Manitoulin and not a specific community like Tobermory because I feel that small towns like those aren't significant enough to put them on. Though I like your idea for a path along that way, I thought that Manitoulin is more identifiable. The location of Manitoulin is there because its closest to the most densly populated part of the island, sticking to the most major road that runs across it.

Where do the troop numbers fit on this map?

The troop numbers will each fit somewhere beside their markers and names -- don't worry, it'll work.

I also added a QWC bonus if you can capture all 26 cities -- though, I'm wondering if it should be split into 2 or 3 sub-bonuses.

I'm also wondering if I should also add Bancroft -- which will bridge Peterborough to Petawawa.
Suggestions?

I'm not sure what you did to the text, but I see a serious degradation in legibility with this latest update as compared to the one previous. Did you add an outline or glow or some such?

Also, the correct spelling is Cobourg, with that second "o".
