I was thinking about a map that combines both Colombia and Venezuela... I've overlayed a map of the departments of Colombia and Venezuela and divided each into regions, and even done some impassable borders based on rivers, mountains, etc.

I was thinking that getting all Venezuela or all Colombia would give you an extra bonus on top of continent bonus.

This is an example. Red is impassable borders, mountains and rivers.

In the Purple area of Venezuela, 20 (Sucre) connects to 18 (Nueva Esparta) which also connects to something on the other side, like 23 (Vargas).

The continent bonus calculator gave:

Colombia:
Caribbean (Pink) 4
Andean (Brown) 9
Pacific (Teal) 3
Orinoco (Yellow) 5
Amazonian (Light Green) 5

Venezuela:
Zulia (Lime) 4
Coastal Range (Purple) 5
Andean (Dark Blue) 3
Llanos (Orange) 6
Guayana (Dark Green) 3

(I think these bonuses are unbalanced and a little inflated but it's just a rough estimate)

Alternatively, I could join some of the regions in Venezuela and Colombia.... Dark Blue in Vzla and Brown in Col. could be join into a pan-Andean region. Light Green in Col and Dark Green in Vzla could be join into a pan-Amazonian region. Orange in Vzla and Yellow in Colombia could be joined into a Plains region. This would make bonuses for holding all Venezuela or all Colombia more interesting.

Is this a viable idea guys? I'd like to start working on a better version but first I'd like to know if it could go anywhere eventually.

psxws, there are many geogrphical maps on this site, and what you have to do is put a good slant/design on this map and it's gameplay to get it accepted and have support for it.
I'd suggest you proceed, because with this "basic" version, most people would say we can't tell really.
if you don't proceed, you sit and wait for people to comment and do nothing...nothing ventured nothing gained.
if you proceed, you get experience in design and artwork and skills that you can grow. What are you waiting for?
Even if the map is not accepted, it gives you more experience to succeed on another map later, or moves you into a position where you can succeed with this map.
Hope this helps! :) and Good luck.

Why not include Ecuador and Panama as well, then you have Gran Colombia which was an actual historical entity, rather than just an arbitrary lumping of two countries together.

i agree, i would rather have actual geographic regions, than just randomly selecting two contries and putting them together
