House of Commons

Hi Everyone,

First post, so bear with me. Had an idea for a map similar to US Senate, based on House of Commons in UK. While visually the map would be 2 major sets of benches, with a Speakers' chair, despatch boxes, and standing room along the central line, the large sections could be helpfully divided up into parties.

659 territories (1 for each Member) would be too much, but by grouping into sections as below, some useful bonuses could be appropriately divided. Ideas for groups would be:

Cabinet
Shadow Cabinet
Government Backbenches
Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition (Opposition Backbenches)
Liberal Democrats
SNP
Plaid Cymru
Speaker, Mace, and Despatch Boxes

In terms of sizes of each group, it might be an idea to base it on a past House of Commons make-up, perhaps the 1992 Conservative Government? The PM John Major had no overall majority,so this would avoid having the Government benches larger than all the rest?

Just wondered what the response would be like? If people like the idea, I could come up with a mock-up map, though I'd have no idea how to translate the picture into a working map!

I think this would be a lovely idea

and yes 1992 is the best example I can think of aswell for a fair map :)

Sounds like an interesting idea, we already have the US senate so why not the House of Commons ;)

I would like to see how this develops.

I like this idea, could be another larger map like 2.1. (and the forth coming Atlantis!)
600 odd territories would be nice though!

I say give Labour 35% of seats, Conservatives 35% and Lib Dems 20%, Fringe Parties 10%

Bonuses could be based upon capturing whole sectors of each and a big bonus if you manage to gain a 'parliamentary majority'
