Well, colors are too hard, and continents very difficult to distinguish from each other and bonus should be more well indicated, for example, in the same color of the continent. Fonts should be better as well. There's a long work to do here...

Cheers!

The background's solid colours looks like a flag, but isn't.

This map will not fly as a straight up classic gameplay. You'll need to add another layer. We all know what Rwanda is famous for. Would it be in poor taste to make the map a military one? Or to divide it into ethnic groups somehow? It may help to add Burundi too.

i suggest having an easy to hold bonus. at least 1, maybe 2. the bonus will be worth anywhere from 1-2 units. just about every map i see has these, and it makes the gameplay easier. i mean, playing on a map where you need to protect 4 places that only gets you 3 units is kinda difficult, aint it?

And make your impassibles clear. It looks like you have natural lakes, which would be great for this, so make sure they sever the line between territories and make a note somewhere that they are impasssible.

I think I will run with this idea, thanks :D

Here's my initial feedback/thoughts:

Firstly, Rwanda is a country that cannot help but be associated with atrocities of the past.... While I wouldn't want to celebrate genocide in any shape or form, there is definitely some scope to add some history to the map - perhaps by incorporating a pre 1990/post 1994 aspect to it? The following map is difficult to make out clearly, but further research could give an interesting backstory and theme to the map?

You could definitely make good use of some of rivers in the area as natural impassables... the following map clearly shows the extent of waterways in the area that would be really helpful in that respect:

It would be helpful if you could put the map into some geographic context... the floating island does not really reflect the fact that Rwanda is landlocked in the centre of Africa, and doesn't give any sense of scale to show how small the place really is. You could split 'Gasabo' (where id you get that name?) into the three sectors of Kigali, the capital, which would make the gameplay slightly better too.

Thanks MrB, I guess I have a lot to do, I don't want to make it so people would play the map from the perspective of the people committing genocide, maybe I do it from the point of the Americans ending the genocide

When the White House claimed on July 15 1994 that "As the crisis in Rwanda has unfolded, the United States has taken a leading role in efforts to protect the Rwandan people and ensure humanitarian assistance", it was being economical with the truth... by that point the genocide was over.

edit: Black Hawk Down was based in Somalia...

Might want to read up on your history. We never invaded anything.

And Black Hawk Down was based in Somalia.

Perhaps you're thinknig of the movie "Hotel Rwanda", that was based on the book "Shake hands with the Devil" by Canadian Lieutenant-General Roméo Dallaire. He led a United Nations mission to moniter the Civil War that had erupted in the country. When the Genocide broke out he helped save more that 20,000 people, although in the end more than 800,000 were killed in total.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rom%C3%A9o_Dallaire for more on Roméo. There is also a documentary based on his book "Shake hands with the Devil" that shares the same name.

I think this map would need to incorporate the huge historic importance on the civil war and genocide.

I'm confused about the gameplay of this map :-s

I'll check back with some more constructive comments when you've explained how it works (preferrably on the map) ;) .

What are "Danger zones" ? Are they all of the regions in the blue stripe of the background ??

The color of the words correspond to the color of the regions

I have a few starting points...
could you lighten up on the texture please.
Also decrease the opacity on the really bright colors.
You also need to work on the legend, not such big text, and explain it more.
And finally, i would study up more if i were you, you are going to realize, once you have studied, that you need to change some stuff.

It is a good idea, and could be a really nice map.
will be back later

Really? What is "stuff" is it singular or plural? Abstract or tangible? and study up on what exactly?

Well I think you would have realized I meant study up on RWANDA history.
Also I did say it wrong(I was in a rush), i meant you would realize there are a lot of things you could add to the map that might make it more unique.

I have a few examples of ways to make the map unique, but maybe you know, many things have happened in Rwanda over the years so you should choose a time period(and depending on the time period these options might not work).
My ideas:
1. I read about when the Tutsis were taken over by the Hutus(1959)
From my reading, it seems that maybe you could add some territories in the neighboring countries. There where 150,000 people driven into exile in neighboring countries, so that could come into play(by adding some territories, you don't have too many)
2. You could also choose to do the early 1990's when the children of the exiled Tutsis rebelled against the Hutus
If you did this you could add in some interesting gameplay about the two sides, and make it an objective map.

here is my link for you to read

hopes this helps
