Moving Solar System

A friend of mine who doesn't play CC heard us talking about it and had an idea for a map.

It involves something that does not exist yet in any CC map. Movement. What about having a solar system in which the planets revolved around the sun and you could only attack planets that were within a certain range of your planet. Moons and other satellites might be included too. Lines will appear on the map showing what you can attack.

Bonus structure would be something like this:
Sun: +2 (added to the sun itself)
Planets: +1 each (added to the planet itself)
All the moons of a planet: +1 (
All of the planets in a group (divided by asteroid belts): +5?

Hate to bring bad news, but this isn't possible with the current XML.

Very interesting idea, though.

been thought of lots of times before but with the current XML it isn't possible but if it was i'm sure there would be plentiful mof these kinds of maps

Why is it not possible?

They way lack makes maps playable is with a long complicated code. This code is long without moving coordinates. Everywhere you see a army counter the computer says 1.2,7.6 or something. Yo make it move it would become endlessly complicated but possible. Suggest it as a modification

this seems to be getting off track of a solar system map

i think this is a cool idea, and correct me if i am wrong but the pac-man map is animated

it is, but the territories aren't changing, the animations are just for decoration

yh you can make it animated as long as you don't move any territories or armies i think

There is animation in the map but not in the territs.

Just because its a lot of code doesn't mean its not possible. I am a semiprofessional programmer. A lot of lines doesn't phase me. So is it or is it not possible?

Firstly i would like to point out i know nothing about coding or XML

Is it possible to make it so some territories are only attackable on even rounds?
Ie. do some kind of check on what round it was and have 2 sets of XML depending on the round number being even or odd. (eventually this could be raised to higher more than 2)

I don't know how this would be added to a map. But for example with the solar system, maybe you say the earth and mecury line up (are within attack range) every 5 rounds, and the earth and venus line up every 3 rounds. So there would be an attack route from the earth to mercury on rounds 5,10,15 etc. and an attack route from earth to venus on rounds 3,6,9,12,15...so only on round 15 can you attack from mercury to earth to venus

This idea is not possible given the current game engine. Not only would the moving army coordinates be a problem (as mentioned above the XML only allows for static army coordinates) but there is also nothing at CC to allow for alternating attack routes, e.g. Mars can attack Earth today, but it can't attack Earth tomorrow; or A attacks B in round 2, but not in Round 3.

That said, it is not impossible for this to happen in the future. Before we can make such a map happen in the Foundry, somebody would need to lobby for this change in the game engine, which would be better done in the Suggestions and Bug Reports Forum.

Here's an idea leave the planets alone and move some totally visual elements like stars or space ships to create the illusion of movement....using animated elements like those in pacman.

Looks like the idea would be a long time coming to fruition with the required xml changes.

Also worth considering that we already have a solar system map.

How about a 'universe' map with movement in the different galaxies spirals?

Or maybe a galaxy map with a few moving comets? Some of the terits could be some of the fantasy worlds we already have maps for (Tamriel, Midkemdil, Volcanus (Archipelago), Centrescape, Discworld, Feudal World, Realms Planey (on the back of the turtle - maybe animated fins).

There is a lot of unchartered territory out there, and probably a lot of players into a bit of sci-fi - so worth adapting the idea and developing. Plus, the background would be easy!
