High School Football - Friday Night Lights

High school football (American teenage football, for those of you not familiar) is a hugely popular sport. The teams usually play 12 games, in a league of 6 or 8 teams. My idea for the game is that there would be 6 schools in the league, with each school made up of several parts: a locker room, cheerleaders, cafeteria, language arts, science, maybe a few other classes (for size & variety), and share a parking lot.

Besides the connections within the individual schools, all 6 schools would be connected via the 3 shared parking lots, and the cafeterias would all connect (food fight, anyone?). Gameplay would be as normal, with bonuses for owning an entire school (minus cafeteria), all cafeterias, all parking lots, etc. However, at the end of each round, each school would meet another, on a set schedule, to battle under the Friday Night Lights (Map name?). The strength of each team territ would determine the battle. No actual armies would be lost, but the winner gets awarded a number of armies equal to the number of cheerleaders he has. The schedule would be posted: 1st round - Panthers vs. Wolves; Spartans vs. Bulldogs; Falcons vs. Eagles. 2nd round - Panthers vs. Spartans; Wolves vs. Falcons; Bulldogs vs. Eagles, etc. until they've all met, then repeat.

The team territ would be a one-way dead end. The cheerleaders would be connected to their school, but it doesn't do you any good to have a strong team if you don't also own the cheerleader territ -- no bonus. The more armies you commit to your team, plus the more you commit to cheerleading, determines your once-per round bonus possibility. I think the cafeterias, teams, and cheerleaders should be neutral, 3 or 5 armies. Neutral schools winning games don't add armies.

So, random drop, Red owns Bulldogs English -- takes Bulldog team, advances 2, has 3 on team. Doesn't own bulldog cheerleaders. After everyone else has played, before Red plays, the 'Friday Night Lights' happen. Since nobody owns both team and cheerleaders, nobody wins any bonus armies. Next turn Red manages to also take cheerleaders, ends up with 2 cheerleaders, 4 on team. At round end, Reds 4-army team Bulldogs play the neutral Eagles (5 armies), but manage to win -- Red still has 4 on team, but starts his next turn with an extra 2 army bonus -- the number of Bulldog cheerleaders he held.

I think this would work, although I'm not sure how to code it -- also we might need to change when the 'Friday Night Lights' happens -- if it always happens after a certain player, it might give an advantage. Perhaps it could happen after each (number of players+1 [or -1]), which would move it down [up] the list each round.

Anybody interested in graphics, or want to discuss the concept more? Please?
