Before I start, make sure you note it's Australasia... not Australia, not Austria

Australasia is a large region of the southwest Pacific that encompasses many small countries and, for some reason, has not been explored as a viable map idea yet! I can't even find a dead ideas thread on it! There is a lot of potential for this map, given the amount of small countries in the pacific, the possible groupings into "continents", and the multitudinous routes available. Also, there are oceanic borders already established between all of the nations in Micronesia and Polynesia.

I intend making this map to celebrate the continental region that I live in, which doesn't currently have a map. Sure, we have Australia, but Aussie is a country, and New Zealand, Papua, and the Pacific Islands are ordinarily associated with Australia when talking about the Australasian continent.

Anyhow, here's an example image of the area I'd work with. Please note I have not made this map, so this is not a draft. I'll be working on a draft sometime soon:

Australia
Christmas Island (Indian Ocean)
Cocos-Keeling Islands
Cook Islands
Fiji
French Polynesia
Kiribati
Nauru
New Caledonia
New Zealand
Niue
Papua New Guinea
Pitcairn Islands
Solomon Islands
Tokelau
Tonga
Tuvalu
Vanuatu
Wallis & Futuna
Western Samoa

A good idea, and should, make a good map.

Why not call it oceania? Australasia will just confuse people

So youll have the 7 Australian states and territories and alot of the islands, 2 or 3 nz territories and the rest.

Abandoned, unless the guy working on the Oceania map chucks it in
