Hi there,

It looks like nobody is actually working on a Crusades map.

Please show me that I'm wrong...

there have been one or two attempts, one was looking good and was just getting going about 5 months ago but despite having support(me included), the map maker deserted it.

The first one looks promising. Is anybody planning to pick it up?

There seem to be two very interesting projects on Europe at large, during the age of crusading, being drafted at the moment: Europe 1099 and Holy Wars. Both rather Medieval: Total War-ish, IMHO, and that's a good thing! I'm hoping they'll progress fast through development so I can play them.

Anyway, doesn't seem to be anything coming up in the line of Guiscard's The Crusades - that is, something actually focusing on the Levant, grounded in historical fact and preferrably also with at least some thought to nifty gaming ideas. A crusading map like qwert's Imperium Romanum, or Crusader Kings-ish, if you like. There are a couple of nice board games out there to have a peek at, for inspiration: Onward, Christian Soldiers and Crusader Rex, for instance.

As an avid armchair crusades historian, I'd love play something along those lines. Really, really much! Anybody got something up their sleeves? I'm into the era so much I might even fiddle with one myself sometime in the future, maybe focusing on the Latin Kingdom with environs during the time inbetween the 2nd and 3rd crusades (to capture the general politicking of the era), but I need more water under my bridge first. Only a nub here, as of yet.

So please, go ahead and beat me to it!
