Space Map (With draft drawing now)

Okay guys, this is the first time I am making a map so if I'm doing something wrong don't hesitate to point it out to me please. Another thing before I get started on my idea, I've already drawn up a (very) basic sketch of what I want the map to look like, but I am undoubtedly going to need someones help with the graphics on this.

Now, to business:

My idea is basically a space battle between 2 Fleets. What I was thinking was that the difference in this map is that it wouldn't be a random drop, because then you could end up owning half of one fleet and half of the other. For the maximum 8 players, they would have one main ship each, that has 5 sections for armies. Then they would control a small armada of ships, say 4 or so. They would then use these ships to attack the other players small ships and big ships. At the moment this map will work with any number of players. For 5-8 player it would be one ship each, and the other left over fleets would be neutral. For 2 player it is 4 ships each, for 3/4 players, 2 ships.

The gameplay works like this: (If it was a simple 2 player match, just to help you visualise the concept) There are 4 small fighter ships for each fleet (fleet consists of one mothership + fighters). The fighter ships have one army spot each. The Motherships however have 6 spots, 2 for the main centre, two for landing party launches, and two for guns. The small fighters can attack only the other small fighters, and when they are destroyed they become neutral 1 (Duck & Cover). Once all the enemies fighters are destroyed, the fighters can attack the other mothership's guns. The motherships can fire at the enemy fighters and the enemy raiding bays on the mothership, but they cannot fire at the two main sections or the enemies guns, but they can launch raiding parties to the enemy mothership in order to capture it. That is the only way to win the game, as to destroy the two main sections inside the ship, you have to have a raiding party inside it.

You get three armies every round, but no bonuses, UNLESS you are playing a multi-player game, in which case when you gain control of the mothership, you get every territory that person used to own (Their 4 fighters, plus the entire mothership).

I shall upload the map soon, but if you have any questions feel free to ask, and please comment with ideas for me, because I really want to make this map work, and I'd appreciate your help alot.

Alright here is a really rough draft of the map. The lines on the map indicate attack lines. Blue lines mean guns attack there. Black lines is for the fighters attacks. Brown is the raiding bays attacks.

sounds like that battlefield map, but with spaceships instead of guitars...

and i don't quite get how the bonus works... is it just a plain old +3 for holding ____ mothership? and thats it? because i don't know how it would be possible just to say _____ gets 3 armies just because...

and i don't know how you would make it work that you can only attack another mothership if you take all the other team's fighters

As always, if you can get your mock up (even if somewhat unpleasant looking)...up, the better we can provide some feedback! Additionally, if you put a lot of thought and dedication into an idea, there are a few Cartographers that might consider helping out, if it interests them. That's the key though...there's got to be some interest. ;)

Good luck, I look forward to seeing your rough draft, and further ideas.

I agree with the "pleasie we wants a draft" sentiment, and one other issue. Right now conditional attacks (like your you-have-to-destroy-fighters-before-the-guns-can-be-hit) is not possible for the XML. If you could edit the idea to fall into the current XML (a rule around here), it will make things much easier on you in the future as you bring this map into gear (i.e., you won't get "well this won't work" comments all the time).

You did and didn't. I was qualifying the XML angle for you. As for the note about being able to force only three reinforcements, the XML can easily do that.

Posted a draft up top. As you can see I fail at drawing, so if/when I sort all the gameplay ideas out, someone wants to draw a proper thing, you are more than welcome to. As for the xml impediments, I think the gameplay will just go with:

Fighters can attack other fighters. The two fighters on the outside can also attack the motherships guns.
Guns can attack all fighters.
Raiding bays attack each other.

Guns and fighters become neutral 1 when defeated, raiding bays become yours for deployments, so you can attack the main area.

As far as bonuses go, you don't get any extra armies. When you capture the 2 mains of the mothership you gain control of all that teams units, including destroyed guns and fighters, but they only have 1 army on each. Deployment is just 3 armies per turn as usual and they can be delpoyed anywhere. With the taking over idea, I'm not sure whether or not that will work in XML. Does anyone know?

There also is no way to turn an entire set of territories to another person's (from neutral or otherwise) in the XML right now. I think I need to suggest that if it hasn't already.

Yeah I wasn't to sure whether that was possible or not. I'll try and think of some new bonuses then.

I don't think you get enough bonuses for 1vs1... I would just mass my troops.....

And I agree with ANDROIDZ...I would make at least three factions, and give each one their own type of ship/ability...

This is a space fantasy, so I'd throw a lot of imagination into it.

Hmm yeah. Maube like a frieghter ship which gives you reinforcements or something. And a battleship that can attack the enemy a lot. I might have to put a bit more thought into this.

Moved into retirement - it has been a couple of months since the last post, and it doesn't look like the mapmaker is working on it any more.
