Travian Map [Abandoned]

Anyone else here play travian? I'm planning on making a map based on it.
Here are a few preliminary ideas for it, its built to be played by 4 players with all but the far corners being neutral

heres the progression so far

1.Image
2.Image
3.Image
4.Image
5.Image
6.Image

So heres where the most complete version stands

The yellow ones are wheat, the green is forest, the gray is mountain, and the white ones are special. The base troop bonus is 1 troop for the player in addition to anything below. The whites give bonuses as follows
  • The whites in the field are part of towns (explained later).
  • The whites in the forest are woodcutters and give +1 bonus troop
  • The whites in the mountains are mines (type could be varied, thinking about having the singles iron and/or clay and give +2 bonus troops and the double being gold with a +6 troop bonus for holding both)
The town squares are as follows
  • The W's are walls and are given a heavy neutral bonus at start but give regular bonuses. The walls of the smaller towns (all of those with only W's and C's) would probbly be 10, The walls for the 2x4 town would be 15 and the large town's wall would be 20. These give some resistances to taking the towns which give the most bonuses.
  • The C would be a town center and would get +2 placed on them per turn.
  • The R's would be rally points and would get +1 placed on them per turn along with an added tactical advantage which is explained below.
  • The B is a Barracks and, if you control it, adds +1 to the rally point
  • The S is a Stable and, if you control it, adds +2 to the rally point in its town

Territories: 180
Start Locations: Each person gets one wheat territory, the rest is neutral
Attack Style: Any spot can attack any other spot within it's zone except within towns. The squares within the walls can only attack and be attacked by adjacent squares except the rally point which can attack ANY square that is not within a wall but CANNOT conquer non adjacent squares

actually we have freedom of speech around here, and the 'none of them' is required 99% of the time (with an exception for DiM)

also, this looks like paint, if it is, u will have to switch your program

and most likely there will be
COpyRiGht

There's still no point in saying "wheres the none of them option on the poll?" If you don't like the map, say why. He said it's a draft anyway, so it shouldn't matter if it's in paint.

I hadn't thought of this but I can dig around and if need be I will change the images enough to avoid this. Also I used GIMP. If any one has any better ideas for what editor I should use in Linux please let me know

Edit: I did a little digging and found
© 2004 - 2007 Travian Games GmbH
so does this mean that I can use it cause they didn't include this year in the copy write?

Also I said which do you like BEST not which one you like so i didn't think a non of these was appropriate. Also I gave the ability to check multiple so if you can't choose you can pick both

You can probably get around copyright if you just use original artwork. It's just a board game right? Guess what CC is ;)

As to the map, it looks like it could have some interesting gameplay, I'd say you should keep at it.

never said i didnt like it, but im not for it (yet) either. Course, most maps that i dont like only take a little graphix work for me to like :D
but yea like ink said, interesting idea, wonder what gimmicks we could use....

And I like the 2nd one best

btw not half bad for a draft :D (most drafts arent good looking)

like a 13yr old did a star wars research on copywrite and found that he could do it in some circumstances,
you will need a LOT more research

god i used to love travian. did i mention i created completed the wonder and won the server? of course with incommensurable help from the alliance.such a great game and it creates a true addiction. i used to get up in the middle of the night because i had attacks planned on rival alliances

anyway besides the copyright issue, what you did the was just do a printscreen of the map. travian deserves something a lot better. the potential is immense.

they arent versions, theyre visual aids!
version 3 would normally be fairly advanced not just an image you got off the internet!
at most your working at a version 0.3

Can you stop with the pointing out every little mistake/gaffe every new-comer makes? Your scornful attitude is really starting to get to me. It's even more annoying because it's not like you're very experienced in the foundry.

I remember briefly playing Travian.
But a few ideas:
If i remember correctly you got three different 'races' each with a different 'skill' you could emulate this. By making the villages different 'races':
      Gauls: +3 Autodeployed
Roman: +1 Normal bonus and +2 Autodeployed
      Teutons: +2 Normal Bonus
Also you could have the bigger villages shown on the side of the map in a separate area like this:
    Image
Then make it so that you had to take over each of the buildings to control the village.
You could also bring in a bit of the AoM gameplay, and have resource pairs for example cornfield and a mill having a larger bonus than just the cornfield by itself.

And a few ideas to get round the copywrite:
Change the name of the map.
Use completely your own graphics.
if you use my 'race' idea call them something else: Vikings, Goths, Britons for example.
Use different resources.
(The latter two are probably very unimportant, but better safe than sorry.)

Can you guys please move this exclusively to a PM? I know I'm just a noob but it would seem like this kind of stuff is inappropriate for this topic.

I don't think this map is big enough to do this

I am not currently willing to do this as I will have issues doing what little artwork as there is, If I were to get some help I would be willing to do the xml though
