Would be great to be able to play the published editions online, but are there copyright implications?

yes. they are copyright issues, so you wont see any of this maps on CC, except if they are totally changed

It would certainly be possible to make maps as unusal as the extended editions IF the updated XML allows it.
The XML would need to be capable of supporting:
* Cards
* "Currency"
* Random events
* Turn counters, with restrictions on what happens on certain turns
* Dice modifications
* In-game board modifications!

To make this sufficiently useful (i.e. so that games would not just be clones of released games) the XML etc would have to be extremely flexible and powerful - I'd imagine this is some way off, but I look forward to being pleasantly surprised :)

I'd be quite interested in getting involved if the system becomes evolved enough to support this, having programmed a number of game clones for my own enjoyment in the past.
