1v1 Total War

Hi,

I was thinking for a long time about a map on the chess concept, but had several problem in the gameplay. But an idea from another i thought about something new.
So i changed my mind but wanted to keep the idea of a special map for the 1v1 where you absolutly need to keep one piece/place.
My idea is that there is 2 camp and the only goal is to conquer other player population. Population will be 1 territ behind opponents army which start from neutral with a big stack. You can bombard it and then conquer.

Both player have the same territs configuration with :

- Head Quarter surounded by 4 zone
- Airport, plane and Ravitalleur (i need the english translation, it's the big planes that bring fuel to the other plane)
- Seaport, submarine, boats
- Infantery, Tank, Missile and Antimissile
- Population, hospital, laboratory, university, Diplomacy, Secret Service

My idea is that both player start from HQ, choose a strat (sea, air, field, diplomacy), and you can only bombard other plane from plane, boat from sub, diplomacy from secret service, ...
And only the infantery will be able to give the last attack on the other population.
Lab, Hosp, Uni, Diplomacy will give special Bonus.

I'd like to get your opinion and if someone may help as it is my first map idea?

Currently, CC policy is that all maps need to be playable for 8 people...

maybe take it to suggestions. there should be a type of map for only 1v1

Thanks for the info, the name can be choose after, I just like to get the authorization to make a special 1v1 map.

I think it's definitely a worthwhile endeavour since we do have so many 1v1 enthusiasts on the site. Something extra for them would be nice.

I agree the 1vs 1 idea but it's against CC policy so it will be a hard work. GOod luck with that fairman

I wrote the main idea on the first post.
2 bases in a frontal opposition.
Target is the population.
Several strat (aerial, field, marine, diplomacy) for attacking, possibility to develop science (laboratry, university, hospital).
What I'd like is to reduce the dices influence.
You start from you Head Quarter, and advance threw your territs. You can't conquer opponent territs, only bombard.
Exception for the opponent population. The game finished as soon as you conquer opponent population which start with a big amount of neutral armies

As you seems to have some precise idea
just draw a sketch, scan it and post it
so we can more easily visualize what you have in mind
and maybe it can be a map thought for 1vs1 game
which is also working with more than 2 players

i agree for special map for 1vs1 in lot games start first with bonus give large advantage // so if this map start with out bonus and auto drop it could be good // so why not 1 other same chess only 1v1 the white start first and second manche reverse color for player :idea: O:)

Well, you can do a map that is balanced for 1v1 games, but still playable for 8 players.

And I want a '57 les paul.

However, I'm not going to throw my $200 guitar in the trashcan and say "if I can't get the one I want, I won't play any guitar". I'll work with the tools I have available. Maybe I'll get better tools, some day... but for now, I'll work with what I have now.

Of course, you're free to do as you please. But the current policy says that maps need to be playable for 8 people. There have been earlier attempts to change this, to make a map for only 1v1:s or only 2v2:s, etc. but so far the policy is still in place... so I'd suggest that you would also work with the tools you have available. If some day pure 1v1 maps will be allowed, you can start a new project then...

I understand the 1 vx 1 enthusiasts wanting a map designed with them in mind. Yet I think it is something that can be made while accomodating the 8 player rule.

Can it be set up in such a way that there are 8 Headquarters yet they are not all "active" unless there are 8 players? In other words, 4 players then 4 are active, 2 then 2 are active.

This way you can have the map under the current rules.

It might be big, but I think it might work great.

Middle Ages was based on a similar idea and it's become HUGEly popular.

Such a suggestion was made recently... and has been made before, I think. It didn't get much of momentum as I recall.

Well, let's try to make a map for 8 but that can really be played for the 1v1.
So the picture in my first post would be the normal base for each player.

I tried going back to that map and see how 8 players would fit in, even with a mirrored side to it. You haven't written much about bonuses and such, but I think it will be very hard to accomplish with the current base.

My suggestion would be to fire up Paint (or something more powerful, if you dare), and do a new map with both sides included. Post your initial thoughts on how the bonus scheme would work.
I'd be happy to chime in, but we've drifted quite far from the original post by now, which makes it hard to tell heads and tails apart.

just a note, i'm not very clear on what part of gameplay you are focusing on, but i was working on somehthing that seems similiar to this. it is the rts based map thread (that noone has seemed to remove yet) in the melting pot. take a look at it and maybe we can both work something up for it if it's something you're interested in. or you can go with it on your own. i'll just tell you what i had in mind, and you can change it up to your liking.
