world war 2 maps

these are just ideas i am not making any maps but hopefully someone who has skills can if they want. there is currently western front, eastern front but the other few are rather specific to battles such as iwo jima and pearl harbour.

i was thinking it would be cool to have maps for the other main theaters of war not just specific battles, somewhere i read someone asking why southern italy wasnt included in western front. well the north africa and italy campaign in the south was quite a different theater to the western front,

when talking about western front it is generally the campaign starting from d-day through france and belgium into germany, the north africa campaign was fought by british through egypt and americans in the west cornering the germans into tunisia (or somewhere near there i think) then they continued and landed on sicily then onto italy through anzio and includes monte cassino (battle? or campaign?) and rome.

this could be its own map i think, in terms of area and potential gameplay tactics and stratigising, i think this may be a good addition to western and eastern front style maps. the way i am currently picturing it, it could be very similar to those 2 maps in gameplay and graphics, the style of drawing and colours and similar number of terretories and bonuses etc, but of course all up to the person who makes it if they do.

some other ideas also on the same theme and style include but are not limited to, the balkans an often overlooked area including the mediterainean islands and greece and those countries i dont know enough history to explain this area but could make a good map,

another is the pacific theater, the australia ww2 map includes png and the southern islands but this map could actually be the whole pacific theater including midway, iwo jima, okinawa, pearl harbour, guadalcanal, the phillipines and stuff, island hopping could be fun and require good strategies,

and also southeast asia, including myanmar and the british armies there and singapore and hong kong and east china and stuff. currently eastern and western front maps are combined in world war 2 map, potentially if someone made these ideas someone could combine all these maps into one which would be the whole of world war 2 every theater of war, that would take a lot of effort though certainly i could not do it, but good luck anyone who tries. man that would be like axis and allies!

Paragraphs help...

But I'm with you, we need some more WWII maps! Notably the Pacific theater.

I'd also like to see crazy oddities of the war, such as the Invasion of Madagascar or proposed plans, such as the invasion of Malta.

There is a battle that I am thinking of, but can not remember just what it was called. It was on the front lines somewhere in Europe, France I think.

It was Christmas eve, and in the dark of the night, while a lull in the shooting was being enjoyed, someone started singing a Christmas carol. I do not remember whether it was a German, American, or English soldier, but his voice could be herd throughout the battle field. Soldiers from both sides started to join in, and before long every soldier was singing along.

But, this miracle did not stop there. The two sides actually met, and shared drink and fellowship, for the remainder of the evening.

I find this event, to be the most uplifting war story, that I have ever herd. But, at the same time, the most saddest. -As the next day, these same men that the night before were enjoying each others company, in a spirit of brotherly love, went back to killing each other.

Ah well, that's not WWII but rather WWI in 1914. It's known as the Christmas truce and I believe it started when Germans and Brits started exchanging rations and whatnot as gifts. The German Government also at that time provided Christmas trees to the German troops to put up along their trenches to celebrate the Christmas spirit. There are reports of soccer/football matches and Christmas masses in no-mans-land and everyone had the opportunity to bury their dead. The truce lasted nearly two weeks in some sectors, much to the outrage of both British and German commanders. Both upper commands took measures in 1915 that no such event could ever take place again as it was contrary to the war effort.

The whole episode is captured quite nicely in the film Joyeux Noel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joyeux_No%C3%ABl

More WWII maps? Seems like we have a hefty amount of those already. How about a different war?

I would take on the Pacific Theatre if there was a map size four-six times the size we currently have......you'd need that space just to fit everything in properly from Pearl Harbor to Midway to Invasion of Japan.
Couldn't do it for less than that i reckon.

geography of europe part with the 3 main theaters marked out. i think it is clear that the north africa and italy campaign deserves a map, in terms of geography it is even larger than the western front
Image
this could be helpful if someone decided to make a map pack which included the whole pacific theater, this is the japanese invasion of china
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_War
a good source of info about various theaters and campaigns can be found on wikipedia, according to it, there were 4 main theaters in the pacific war:
china (the invasion of china by japan),
the pacific ocean (only the islands not including phillipines and indonesia, japan vs USA heaps of naval battles),
southeast asia (british against japanese fighting for their colonies singapore myanmar and protecting india)
and southwest pacific (papua new guinea, philippines, indonesia, attempt to conquer australia)

i think the last one is encompassed in the WW2 australia map already, but i think the first 3 are good divisions of the pacific theater in terms of theme, geography and gameplay

this i think would be a good division of maps if someone made a map pack. blue is the western front and red the eastern front, yellow would be the north africa campaign while green would be the mediterranean and italy campaigns including the landing on sicily and anzio and battle for greece and crete and other mediterranean countries

I have at times considered the notion of making a map about the Winter War (Finland vs. Soviet union) but I really have a full schedule when it comes to maps right now... perhaps some day though.
